i think people forget Shields damn near being Koed multiple times in their fight and jake takedowns getting stuffed and him being so gassed he could barely stand...daley gave him a hell of a fight...in no way did Shields whip his ass eventhough he did win..

I root hard for Thompson but lets look at facts. He's 5-3 since 2008 with the 3 losses being VS ranked opponents.
He has his chance in the UFC and had trouble with top ten competition there as well.
And losing to Jake Shields is a bad thing? The same Shields that beat Carlos Condit, Nick Thompson, Robbie Lawler, and Yushin Okami?
LOL! GTFO with that. Not only has Shields a couple of the current top 10 Welterweights, but he's beaten top 10 Middleweights before too! Jake is an awesome wrestler with great submission skills (something that is pretty rare in the UFC). He really would be the #2 Welterweight if he ever fought there and could probably easily beat Bisping.

Don't know why people keep bringing this fight up, no shame for a specialist striker to get beaten by Shields. The Thompson fight was a much bigger hype killer for me, mainly standup and Daley got picked off by a pretty mediocre fighter (no offence to Goat fans, but lets face it he's no GSP.)
I picked Kampmann and Hazelett both to beat Daley, mainly on the strength of the Thompson fight and he proved me wrong both times. Judging on recent form he is a dangerous fighter for anyone, back to back wins against quality fighters with good ground games, can't hold his earlier career losses against him forever I guess.

The only person I've seen saying Daley 'almost knocked Thompson out' is HBL, not exactly representative of all Daley fans to be fair.
From what I remember Daley had Thompson rocked briefly in the 2nd round, haven't seen the fight since it happened though. Generally Thompson just kept Daley at range with the jab and leg kicks, won pretty comfortably on points.

Shields is the worst possible style matchup for Daley. Shields is a good collegiate wrestler who ks known for having one of the best no gi top games in the world. If I had to name the perfect fighter to beat Daley, it would be Shields
