james toney

when jordan wanted to play baseball they dident make him the starting shortstop for the sox. They put him in the minors and let him attempt to prove he could do both.royce proved years ago that ground fighting is superior to everything else.stand up fighting has evolved into a more dominating part of the mma world but thats only because everyone cross trains and the best strikers are the best strikers because they dont fear the takedown.MMA does not have to prove that good fighters would kill and own boxers.royce did that for us.Yeah you could beat a good mma fighter sometimes because your a pro athelete and you can punch hard and your fast. But more often than not you would lose. A boxing stance is primarily on the balls of your feet for max power. A mma stance is in the middle or on your heals for checking kicks. if your pressing on the balls of your feet and eat a hard leg kick you could be out of the fight quick. Id like to see it but i wouldent pay for it. You had a great career and your still good but not for MMA

Let him go to strikeforce and fight fedor on CBS. Would be the most watched MMA fight ever, furthering the sport becuase fedor destroys him.....plus fedor says he likes to fight people where they're strong? Would be awesome

I wouldn't pay for it either but I would like to see it as well.

I dunno. Fedor is past due for a random lucky shot to get through and flash KO him. If it was Toney who got lucky we'd NEVER hear the end of it...

Toney looked like a fool in that video.

fans of what. ill pay 2 dollars to see the weird shit at the fair. But lik i said w have already sn this show years ago. without a ground game you cant be considerd amongst the best. im not interested in seeing if toney can stand up long enough to try and finish a fight.

I dont think comparing what Royce did is a good analogy. Royce never fought anyone like Toney. If it was UFC 1 rules and you could have a prime Royce against a prime Toney, I still dont know who would win.

yeah toney could end any fight quick but in most cass it wouldnt happen. why give a boxer a chance for a nice payday.

In most cases all fights dont end quick at that level

my bad i pasted a comment i was responding to. all these years and i still suck at puter

and proper grammer

In muay thai we were taught to stand on the balls of our feet to kick, check and react faster. Maybe my instructor is teaching us wrong.

If you had said the boxing (or MT) stance leaves you open for takedowns I'd agree, but for checking kicks?

Brad

Wow that Ray Mercer KO was sweet! I think if Mercer would of hit anybody in the UFC with that shot they would have went night night as well. That was basicly his chance in that fight was to land the big shot and he did.

Yeah not sure about this heels stuff. You need to be on your toes to shoot too. Boxing and wrestling stance has the weight more forward, MT more centred over the feet, but both stand on the toes.

Have a stable of Golden Glove boxers against College/Olympic stud wrestlers. Pay Toney 2 million to fight.

If Toney can have any success pro boxers will flood MMA. To most fighters its about the money. we all know MMA pay days are way less then boxing and with the UFC's business model that won't change (right, wrong or indifferent). There is a rare fighter that is already rich and wants the glory and fame of being champion. Lets be honest a UFC champion has more mainstream appeal right now then a boxing champion does (minus the huge names).
I do not think that it would be unreasonable for boxers to want to hold on to that glory or get more fame and try MMA.

Roy Jones got first round KO'd by a journeymen and his boxing career is a wreck. He has all the money he can ever want. But he is missing the flash and glitz and fame as he is declining. He is probably watching UFC unleashed right now and seeing Forrest and Bonnar and thinking "id knock these bums out"

Its not a question of will a big name boxer enter MMA its when and who. The answer is when said boxer drops his price tag.
