Say it ain't so...I really wanted to see him in the UFC. Ben Askren is the only the only fight you have in Bellator.
Former International Fight League welterweight champion Jay Hieron has agreed to an exclusive contract with Bellator Fighting Championships and will take part in the promotion’s Season 4 welterweight tournament. Terms of the deal, announced on Monday, were not disclosed.
Anchored at Xtreme Couture Mixed Martial Arts in Las Vegas, Hieron has rattled off seven consecutive victories. The 34-year-old last appeared under the Strikeforce banner in January, when he defeated fellow UFC veteran Joe Riggs by unanimous decision at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla.
“Jay is a fantastic signing for us at 170 pounds,” Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney said in a release. “Jay is a world-class fighter with serious talent. I can’t wait to see him back on national television competing against other top fighters where he belongs. He is a spectacular addition to our upcoming Season 4 welterweight tournament.”
“It’s just a great fit for me,” Hieron said. “At this point in my career, I want to stay as active as possible, and the tournament format allows me to do that. It’s a great organization, and it’s just the perfect fit.”
TrickyG - Askren his only fight? Dan Hornbuckle and Lymon Good say hi, noob.
Im just saying it is my opinion that Hieron is the best welterweight not in the UFC not named Nick Diaz. Those might be good fights, but not on the terms that will get you national notatariety. Beating Dan Hornbuckle isn't getting you gatorade commercials. Any top welterweight should want to be in the UFC, as they have 1-20 pretty much locked up...
Hes got few fights outside the ufc hornbuckle, asken, good and diaz and maybe some ww in japan, I think he wins all of these anyway so hopefully he finishes up the deal soon and moves on to face top talent in the ufc

I disagree that he's the best non-UFC WW besides Nick, but I get what you mean.
Great move by Jay. For those saying it's a bad move, signing with Bellator and fighting regularly is a lot better than waiting for the UFC to end up on an undercard.
Also, there have been Bellator fighters who have subsequently been signed by the UFC so it's not like Hieron doesn't have a chance at the UFC later on.

hornbuckles gonna smash him if someone else doesnt take him out 1st...ttt this thread when it happens
Peckerwood - Assuming Bellator stays in business this should be nice money for Jay and consistent fights.
How many times has Eddie Alvarez fought for Bellator this year? That's right....twice. Twice in 1 year. That is fighting consistently? Hieron is making a huge mistake signing with Bellator, their contracts are onerous, and if he wins a belt, he is stuck there permanently. If he loses, he just lost in a minor league promotion, and will effectively kill his future in the sport. Unless the UFC flat out refused to do business with Jay, this is career suicide.

That's just a tad over the top.
So you're saying UFC fighters usually fight more than twice a year ?
