People have a tendency to hear a well spoken black man with a little confidence and instantly think...douchebag. Or "know it all". For some reason, that type of guy makes a lot of people's "this dude is shady" radar go off. They may not notice it outright, but subconsciously, it happens. A lot.
I'm not saying that's why people don't like Bones. I know the reasons, and a lot of them aren't race issues at all. But as a well spoken black man, I've experienced it firsthand myself. It just comes naturally to a lot of people because they draw a similar comparison to a shady businessman, where you feel like they're trying to trick you. For some reason, a black person with a proper way of speaking can set that radar off.
Again, not saying that's why. But for at least a few people, it is. And it's probably more than people realize. Most human beings are wired where once they make their mind up about something, everything shades in that direction. So, if the way the Bones talks sets off your douche alarm, everything he does will have a douchey tint to it, regardless of reality. That's how letting go of a sub quickly, and walking away calmly, can be viewed as a blatantly disrespectful murder attempt.

Jones is trying too hard to cultivate his public image. Everything seems forced with him. He should just be himself, I think the reason he gets a lot of hate is that people sense this about him. They sense that on some level there is something dishonest about his personality.
This isn't to suggest he is a bad person, a liar or whatever. It is just that the personality we see, the sound bytes we hear, the twitter remarks we read are not the REAL Jones personality, it is coming through a filter. It is what he thinks is expected of him and it comes across as phoney.

Thank god this isn't another thread insinuating racism. I stopped listening to jones interviews a while ago and I will say that I am now a fan because of it. The haters are too caught up in his personality which should come second to his fighting ability imo.

I do too, and admittedly, it's funny as fuck. Good catch. But you did the exact same thing right after, and I found that funnier. My point, is that my point is no less valid because of it. That is all.
I'm white and I like Jon Jones. I think he is just trying to be professional and stay humble. They guys sets a good example. He has every reason to have that kind of confidence. Considering everything he has done, the age he has done it, and his experience level...I think he is extremely reserved. He handles success very well.
