Jim Ross: "Josh Koscheck is the Rick Flair of MMA"

Wooooo! Phone Post

Damn he was only the 5 time World Heavyweight Champ at this point, what the hell is he now like 18?

I like Jim Ross and all, but Kos is no Ric Flair.

Hocky Balboa -  Flair had just as many fans, as he had haters; The same can't be said about Koscheck. Phone Post

That was only after he had already been in the business for about 20 years.  Comparably Kos is very young in MMA.

Meltzer says Koscheck reminds him more of 90's Shawn Michaels.  I agree.   Wrestling people all love Koscheck, btw.   They'll all tell you what an incredible job he's doing of building up this fight.

and the people that legit hate Kos are the biggest suckers.   They're falling for everything Kos says and does, and reacting the exact way he wants.    And they still say he sucks as a heel!   lol!!!

 more like x-pac imo.

Nah.   X-Pac was never that good on the mic and was never a top guy.

I meant in an "Arrogant ,nobody wants to hear or see you" way.

This...

I think the comparison is great. Back in the 1980s, fans truly despised Flair and were desperate to see him lose. People paid to see him get his mouth shut by the likes of Dusty Rhodes and Ricky Steamboat -- who's respectful baby-face routine reminds me a helluva lot of GSP.

Younger fans probably don't realize that "cheering for the heels" really didn't exist en mass until the 1990s.

His fight with GSP will most likely do upwards of a milions buys, largely due to him.   Also TUF's ratings this season are higher than they've been in a while.  Once again, mainly due to Kos.  I'm pretty sure people want to see him.

They need to add pins into UFC matches for Kos to really become the next Ric Flair.

I'd go off to see him win by cheap small package, or faking injury followed by rollup pin from behind.

That'd be awesome.

Josh Koscheck couldn't lace up Nature Boy's boots.

I'm a Kos fan, but Kos is a terrible heel. People think that heels are just people who want to be booed, but there's a lot more that goes into it.

For one, the term "heel" is given because the heel carries the show and often the whole feud and every match in it. Kos isn't carrying anything at all however, GSP is the whole draw. GSP is the face of the sport itself to many people, whereas Kos couldn't even win TUF. Kos is getting the rub from GSP here.

Secondly, the greatest heels are almost always "smarter" and more calculating than the faces. It's no coincidence that the greatest heel announcer of all time was called "The Brain" and the greatest face of all time (Hulk Hogan) looked about as dumb as a tuna sandwich. The best heels don't just cheat by hitting each other with "foreign objects," they also secretly manipulate other people around them, play tricks on the fans, etc. Kos OTOH just looks like an idiot on that show as he keeps getting outsmarted by GSP every step of the way. And again, I'm a Kos fan, but nothing he does comes off as something a true heel would actually do. Kos is a heel in the Zeus vs. Hulk Hogan sense, not in the Roddy Piper vs. Hulk Hogan sense. Kos is getting booed because people are flat out sick of his shit, ala Hulk Hogan as the eternal champ of the NWO.

Thirdly, in pro wrestling, the heels are usually the better wrestlers, and usually they have the better overall skillsets and are more easily adaptable to other styles. There's no doubt who is the better mixed martial artist between GSP and Kos. It's a fucking landslide.

Also, great heels - like Ric Flair - are great talkers. Kos is not a great talker. He not only fucks his sentences up all the time, he also talks shit in the most obvious ways possible - and that's probably a reason a lot of people dislike him. He's like Rampage. like if you're fat then that's the only thing Kos can make fun of. People with developed senses of humor probably don't find Kos all that funny most of the time.

Lastly - even though I could probably go on - great heels are usually the ones with everything to lose. They're the champs with the money and the women and all that, and that's why they're so good at stealing/cheating/etc. to keep what is theirs. The greatest heels are built to look like they're unstoppable. In this case however, GSP is the one with the gold, the money, the fans, the respect of the entire sport, etc. and GSP is the one who looks impossible to beat. Kos is the one chasing. Kos is the one with nothing to lose. Again, I'm a Kos fan, but even though Kos is no doubt one of the best WW fighters the sport has to offer, this is still a mismatch and IMO GSP will crush him.

The only parallels I see between a great pro wrestling heel and Koscheck is the hair. A loud physical appearance (Jesse Ventura, Roddy with the "skirt," Adrian Adonis, etc.) is commonplace for a heel in pro wrestling. I agree with the other poster about JR being out of his mind. He's become a big MMA fan but his lack of knowledge really shines in comments like this and the desire for Lesnar-Mir 3. If there is a true heel in MMA it would be Chael Sonnen in a landslide, and as far as Brock-Mir 3, I think he's seriously underestimating Brock and overestimating Mir. Brock doesn't need some easy win and a big paycheck, he needs to up his striking in the gym and look to test it out against a tough opponent he's never seen before. And Mir's talking skills would be better served convincing fans that a fight between himself and Brendan Shaub is a worthy co-main event.

CRE - More like Owen Hart when he was a heel or something lol

I doubt Kos owns a pair of shoes that are more expensive than GSP's house either.
