when he was in his prime he was not fat. it may look like that to the american eye but this physique is very common in russia.
look at fedor, aleks, zentsov, povetkin, taktarov, etc. none of them are ripped. its slavic genetics.
he isnt the same now because of age and because he doesnt lift. its a bit disrespectful to be calling the guy fat. suggests a lack of work ethic. i know you are a big fan of him and you just call it like you see it but just my take.

To be fair, I don't think ANYBODY would call Fedor wildly in shape or anything.
It just doesn't matter when you're the most dangerous heavyweight in MMA history to date how fat you are.
He is right though. And I'm the biggest Fedor fan.
Here's how I see it: if you're not fighting at your natural body weight which is 10-13% fat with minimal hypertrophy of muscles (no crazy weight lifting), then you are not performing to your potential. Fedor would be reborn if he dropped 25 lbs., imo.
225-230 is his natural weight. it has been for 10 years and is a testament to how he never really lets himself go. you dont see abs and you think this guy is overweight.

that is prime fedor there. could he of fought at 205? probably. but he would of had to change his diet and sweat himself to death. maybe that would of fucked him up.
ill agree the fedor now has no business fighting at hw because he doesnt have the strength he used to and the guys are bigger. but prime fedor would still be top 3 easily against the new breed.
First of all, he's 6'0. I have met him in person. Secondly, his athleticism is what made him so successful years ago. Now that he has lost a step slightly, I'd recommend getting his body in its best shape for optimal performance. I'd like to see him walk around at 207 lbs.

Igor did the opposite of cutting. He GAINED weight to fight the bigger guys.

The results he has been able to achieve are in spite of his lack of being in the best possible fighting shape. It doesn't mean he has poor cardio conditioning. It doesn't mean he is lazy, it just means he is fucking fat!

Though he always stayed the same weight, it may be likely over time it became more muscle loss and more fat gain that made up that weight of 230ish.
Hes obviously in ridiculously better shape then all of us but hes definitly looking pudgy these days.
