Odd how the shorter tournaments only appear when there is a fighter they want to have a title shot. Last summer it was "Bellator is only doing 4-man tournaments for the Summer Series, we'll return to 8-man in the fall." Now they are back to 8 man except for Warren's tournament.
And they still haven't done the Leone/Silva Summer Series bantamweight finals. LOL. I bet if Warren wins he gets a title shot before the winner of that fight.
They will do more 4 man tournaments. HW is gonna be 4 man with Kongo in it.
In some ways it is helping them get the guy they want to a title fight but it also is being done in divs they arent deep in. THey arent deep at LHW, HW, BW has some fighters and prospects but its not very deep. FW, LW and WW are their best divs and you see them doing 8 man tournaments for them.

4 man are good to pump out challengers for the champs. You can Bdo back to back seasons of 4 man tournaments and get two contenders out of the same 8 man field. No point in taking a weak div like HW and doing 8 man tournament, killing off all but one guy when they dont have many fighters in the first place.
You take those 8 guys and now you get two guys to fight for the title instead of 1.

I can see why people might think this, but the reality is that Bellator's HW, LHW, and BW divisions are quite thin. The champs at those weights don't get to fight often enough, so smaller tournaments should in theory allow for more title defenses.
Bellator ran three 4-man tournaments in the Summer Series and aside from LHW (King Mo) there was no clear favorite to win those. Now of Bellator runs them in all of their other weight classes and has them filled with guys like War Machine against the likes of Blas Avena and Vaughan Anderson, then there's a problem.
Speaking of favoritism in MMA, I don't get why so much fans give Bellator crap for it considering all MMA promotions play favoritism with their matchmaking. It's just the reality of the fight game.
