John Danaher - Control

Renzo BBs Gene Dunn and Brian Glick run a McDojo? Who knew?  /sarc

John is an amazing instructor who never feels the need to impress anyone, but ends up impressing everyone.  I remember king of the mat at Renzo's 15-16 years ago when he was a purple belt.  He's start the drill in guard, finish in guard, and look like he had just taken a stroll through the park when it was over.

That is one guy I would love to take a class from someday.

I'd love to learn from him Phone Post

ChipW - That's a great interview. I've always heard about what a good instructor he is but I've never heard him speak before.

I like what he said about treating his hobbyists the same as his professional fighters.
He seems like a really smart guy Phone Post 3.0
Yep. Very smart. Hobbyists pay the bills, not the fighters. Treat them equally and the hobbyists will keep coming back and paying their fees, allowing your club the financial freedom to at the very least subsidize the fighters by giving them free memberships Phone Post 3.0

Its well known in the NYC jiu jitsu scene that a ranking from BBJJ means literally nothing. Brooklyn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blue belts are the shittiest in the world. They offered to give my little brother his blue belt at 14 years old, after he had quit and moved to another gym. They literally called him and said "we will give you your blue belt if you come back." Hes fucking 14. This was 4 years ago, and he just got his blue belt under a legitimate instructor. He was not a blue belt then.

Dunn and Glick are definitely good practitioners, but the quality of instruction they offer is shit. The place markets itself towards soccer moms. Every class starts withe the students lining up and reciting the "student creed". just because someone good runs the gym, does not mean the training is not terrible.

Also, look up "brooklyn Brazilian jiu jitsu lawsuits"

Brian Glick is one of John's best students. I've never heard this before.
