John Makdessi made $28,461.65 after Deductions for his UFC 293 Fight

In my Dennis Hallman interview I had mentioned

  • can you believe that John is still in the UFC? (They fought in 2011)

Hallman replied - what… that guy sucked, there is no way that he is still fighting there

Sam stout also shit on him

Guys that put their time in…

I think that the loss against Hallman forces John to level up

Stout - he admitted that it was more personal than anything due to John’s comments around the death of his coach

  • that was the context

So the UFC doesnt cover flight or medical either. Ok the UFC gets away with a whole fucking lot. Ive never seen such a shit pay rate for the highest level MMA organization.

No wonder the talent pool is drying up so many divisions

Also, odd the fighters have to cover their own expense for obtaining a visa. If the $28,000 is true, subtract management, training, etc. from that and he is probably left with less than $15,000. That is a rough go.

I think it depends how you look at it. Its not like he can fight every six weeks realistically. Did he have expenses during camp? Does he owe his corner money? Etc. I look at it as 30K for a 1/3 or 1/4 a year which seems like average turnaround time for most fighters

UFC underpays it’s fighters to a degree, but the AUS govt takes wayyy too much money from people. Basically every govt. does.

The UFC could simply compensate them accordingly. It’s not like they didn’t know about the taxes

I think he runs his own gym

So the UFC has to spend more money because the government taxes more? Doesn’t really make sense

*Cries in universal healthcare

It wouldn’t make sense if the fighters were actually independent contractors. But they are not.

They sign a say 8 fight contract and then the UFC makes them fight in some shitty high tax restriction. If they turn it down it hurts their careers so they are forced to take these fights.

A good company would simply pay them a bit more if they go to a higher tax restriction. These guys are not fighting for the Australian government they’re fighting for the UFC

Or maybe the UFC should just stop going to these places?

They just sold an entire gate in 4 minutes that had no main event and a local undercard. I think they will keep coming
