It was mentioned in another thread that it would be swell if Johnny Huskey put out a toe-hold instructional, and I whole-heartedly concur. Then I saw this
forum discussion in which it is stated (with no verification) that Huskey was planning on putting out an instructional with Billy Wicks. Can anyone confirm or deny if this is indeed in the works? Drew Price?
oh yes,
it's a great hold...the intricacies have to be mastered. you just have to drill it and drill it and drill it. johnny is a master of the hold. It is used secondary to the double wristlock when the opponent tries to put his arm up to his stomach/chest to counter the wristlock. very effective when mastered as a submission or as a pin.
Well coming from a jiu-jitsu background, the triangle is one of the most fundamental and versatile moves there is. The true keylock is just more...exotic I guess. I'm not knocking you guys, it's just interesting to me that someone out there is able to sink the keylock at will but not be able to triangle anyone. Truly there is a wide range of skills and specialties in the world of grappling.
To be perfectly honest though, I've only gotten a couple people with the armbar from guard, another Day 1 submission from BJJ. So there you go.
the exact opposite is true coming from a hook wrestling background...I think in my case there are two reasons. 1. I've never worked on the triangle, only countering it. 2. I'm fat...
I'm not fat at all, the first time I ever learned a triangle was at a Mark Bocek seminar from Mark Bocek. Than I practiced it a bunch of time withthe grappling place here and people never tapped from my traingle. For some reason after I learned the Key Lock and having a pretty good freestyle wrestling background I always found my self with a good side control the key locks came naturally.
