Jon Jones is NOT the next Muhammad Ali

ALL DAY JAY - You need to get over it. They are called "weight classes", not height classes.

get over what?

I'm just saying what everyone already knows. That's why Jones is nothing like Ali or has done what Ali has achieved.

I prefer Jones to be nothing like Ali. I think that we can agree that it is a silly comparison. I mean, you cant really compare the two. Two different sports, two different eras...

That's not what I mean at all.

Jon Jones is a larger man than Ali but yet refuses to fight heavyweight.

Muhammad Ali feared no man and fought all comers at Heavy

^^^Give him some time. The dude is 24 years old. He has already said that he want to move to HW at some point. Let him clean out LHW first then move up. No shame in that. And do you honestly think that JJ is scared of anyone at any weight? I really doubt that.

Silverball - Muhammad Ali was a 100-5 as an amateur before winning the Olympic Gold Medal as a light heavyweight. After turning pro he became the youngest man ever (at the time) to win the heavyweight championship of the world, which he defended successfully 9 times before being stripped of his title.

This doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of who Ali was as a boxer, much less his status as one of the most iconic figures in 20th century sports, politics, and religion.

Don't mention Jones in the same breaf.

At the end of the day, there is no purpose to even compare the two. Ever. Ali was who he was, be it with the decisions and actions he had made in his life or not. We were not there, who are we to judge? The fact of the matter is that his life had a significant impact not only on the lives of a generation, but also on the lives of sports icons over the next few generations, Jones included. /End comparison. [Not that I would ever bother to make that comparison in the first place. That would be a slap in the face of an icon.]

I think its was stupid and ignorant to make that comparison in the first place Phone Post

Bipolar - Oh right. You mean like the fights Ali had with 187 lbs Joe Frazier. And didn't he lose one of those?

Frazier fought up in weight, that's his choice(and he's still considered top ten heavyweight - RESPECT)

I respect Joe Frazier 100% more than Jon Jones who cuts down to fight midgets he dwarfs over.

Should be "reach classes" as well Phone Post

There will never be an MMA fighter as big as Ali was. I hope I'm wrong though Phone Post

Jones might equal or even surpass Ali's professional achievements. Unfortunately for Bones though he'll be considered just another UFC cage fighter from the perpective of the general public.

When he started fighting, he wasn't even cutting weight to make 205.

FYI He's asked Lorenzo and Dana for fights at HW, and they told him "no."

stonepony - He is far more dominant in his sport than Ali was in his sport. The politics and nonsense and muslim black-activism is all irrelevant. Vietnam made Ali an icon. JJ is building his legacy inside the cage, not outside the cage.

If you want to compare JJ to a boxer, it has to be Tyson or RJJ. They humiliated their unfortunate opponents.
Utter bollocks. Phone Post

 he'll be better.
