Jones: I would jump at a superfight with Weidman

Back in February UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones said he was not interested in a superfight with UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman.

"A lot of people are starting to mention Chris Weidman's name and I think in order for it to be a superfight Chris Weidman needs to get his name a little bit bigger and prove himself against some other world champions," said Jones on AXS TV's Inside MMA. "With that being said, I think Cain Velasquez is the only guy that would actually be considered a superfight."

Then Weidman beat Machida, making himself a lot bit bigger.

Last month Weidman said he wanted a superfight with Jones.

“If I had to say right now, then yeah that’s the fight I want," said Weidman on The MMA Hour. "It’s not like I’m calling out Jon Jones, but I want the toughest competition and I’d want to fight the people that other people think I can’t beat. So he’d definitely be an awesome test for me, so who knows. I don’t even think that I’d entertain that (Johny Hendricks fight). Not that he’s not good or anything like that, but it just doesn’t make any sense to talk about it now. Hendricks hasn’t defended his belt yet, and I have more people to fight in my weight class. Nothing to talk about right now. On top of that, I would never call out a guy who’s smaller than me. I’m a lot bigger than him, I think. I know he walks around heavy, but I’d feel like I’d have a huge advantage in that fight, so I’m not calling him out. Jon Jones is different. He’s taller than me, he’s bigger than me, so that’s a different story. That would be more of a test for me than Johny Hendricks.”

Now Jones says he is open to being that test.

"Oh, man, I think that would be awesome," said Jones to Lem Satterfield for Sherdog. "I would absolutely jump at the opportunity to have a super fight with Chris Weidman. I respect him a lot as a person and as a champion, and I think that that fight would make great sales -- absolutely.

Once agian..... Please take my money Phone Post

That would make for an interesting bout. Let's see how Jones competes with DC then upon that result we can debate over Weidman v Jones / DC.
I'd personally like to see Weidman v DC myself. Phone Post 3.0

But he won't fight Cain? Phone Post 3.0

Because he knows Cain will smash him. Phone Post 3.0

I think Jones has fought enough middleweights. Phone Post 3.0

and new humble AJ

So the guy who barely makes 205 wants to fight the 185lbs champion. Sweet. Meanwhile Cain is sitting at HW in what would be an actual Super Fight.

I'm starting to get sick of fighters calling people out in lower weight classes. If Jones wants to fight at 185lbs fine. Otherwise why even talk about it? Phone Post 3.0

A) What evidence do you have that Jones "barely" makes 205?

B) how is Jones "calling Out" Weidman when the reporter asked Jones about Weidman speculating on the possibility of this fight?

Relax, it's just a throw away comment. It's not like these guys are going to fight anytime soon Phone Post 3.0

I really like Chris but I don't know if he could handle Bones.
If Chris gets it to the ground he absolutely finishes Jon down there. But if he can't take it down I think Jon holds his own in the stand up and wins a decision. I don't think he would be able to finish Chris. Phone Post 3.0

Jon better steer clear of Weidman. He would get mauled.

Save this fight for when MMA gets sanctioned for New York. Jones vs Weidman in Madison Square Garden would be epic! Phone Post 3.0

He would jump under a rock for that Phone Post 3.0

Jones vs Cain or Jones vs Weidman would both be amazing. UFC can charge whatever the fuck they want for those and I will still pay.

Lol do people actually believe weidman would beat Jones? hahahahha

Jon Jones would smash weidman, Glover texeria would smash weidman.

I don't think Glover, but Jones would definitely give him a hard time Phone Post

Big fan of Chris but he has nothing for Jones in my opinion, Jones is just a bigger better version of him with exponentially better standup skills.

"If Chris gets it to the ground he absolutely finishes Jon down there."

I mean Chris is good but what would give you that idea?

Cain barely fights in his own weightclass with all his injuries, a superfight there is unlikely.

If u read the article instead of just blindly hating on the guy, u would realize jones isnt calling out anyone here. Phone Post 3.0

I actually think glover has all the tools to dominate him. Glover has good tdd, and good bjj. Even if chris were to drag him down,(which I dont think he could) Chris won't be able to tap him out or do much damage to him. Chris wont even be able to keep him the ground anyways. Glover will push forward take the fight to Chris and outbox him. I dont think Chris will do well against an aggressive striker, especially an aggressive striker with good hands.
