Jones: I would never ever fight Anderson Silva

For a period of time Anderson Silva was ruling the middleweight division and Jon Jones the light heavyweight division. Fans and media speculated about a future super fight between the two if they continued to clean out their divisions. Unfortunately new contenders pop up all the time for Jones and Silva has lost his last two fights at middleweight.

Regardless of the logistics of the fight ever happening, it's not something Jon Jones is interested in:

"I would never want to fight Anderson. Never. Ever," Jones said at Monday's UFC media day.

Jones, who said he hopes to train with Silva at the TUF gym while both are in town, explains why he considers the bout off-limits.

"I just look up to him so much," Jones said. "And he's just...I don't have many people that I've looked up to in my lifetime and think, ‘wow, how cool would it be to be that guy.' Look at what he's done. Jordan, LeBron, Anderson, Kobe, I consider them all in the same type of class. The Jeters. Athletes of that caliber don't come around that often. I don't want to be the guy to beat him. Even though that's happened already, I wouldn't want to lose to him and I don't want to beat him. "

Shut up, Meg. Phone Post 3.0

The title of the article is a bit inaccurate, as Jones actually said "I would never want to fight Anderson. Never. Ever,". He's not saying he'd never fight him, but rather he would never "want" to fight Anderson. If they paid both guys enough money, I think we all know they'd do the fight.

If I were Jones I wouldn't fight Silva either.

If Jones wins, he gets nothing from it. People will say Silva lost because he's smaller and well past his prime, and because he never fully recovered from his injury. People would also start saying 205 is incredibly weak. If Weidman can beat Silva, why can't Bones?

If Jones loses, well he'd look ridiculous.

Basically, for Jones, fighting Silva makes no sense.

I admire Jones for this statement, very few people in this sport left to look up to but Anderson is one of them.

I agree with Jones. Why beat a legend when he's way past his prime? Anderson should be fighting guys like Henderson, Liddell, etc. who are also way past their prime.

Btw, I know Liddell is retired but I mean legends who are past their primes and interested in fighting still. I couldn't think of anyone else who Anderson hasn't faced already and/or isn't retired.

beatmeov - Sounds to me like he just started to promote a fight.

well, Anderson IS a middleweight...

I don't think that is a very good idea at all. Phone Post 3.0

Perhaps not but I'm pretty sure after he fights Diaz you will see why I made such a suggestion. He is done. :(

"Jon Bones Jones @JonnyBones
Just finished learning from the best @SpiderAnderson what a unique talent #honored"

Awesome.

Lol. I keep thinking about Jones with the mic in his hand yesterday trying to talk over Diaz. He's the P4P #1 and no one was listening. He gets no respect.

He was like the guy from Office Space trying to get his stapler. Phone Post

I hope not!

Honestly, I don't know what to expect, which is why the fight with Diaz's so intriguing. Besides the leg issue his chin appears to be shot and he's a little bit slower due to his age but his skills are still there.

Hopefully we'll see fights against Mousasi, Luke and Bisping.

Nothing about that is rocky vs apollo.

Has dana seen rocky?

Cool pic none the less.

Would've have loved to see this fight about 3 years ago. Now that Weidman has beaten Anderson I have no interest in this fight. Would still watch if it happened though. Maybe Jones can fight Weidman and avenge Anderson. Phone Post 3.0

jiujitsumstr - For a period of time Anderson Silva was ruling the middleweight division

A "period" of time? He ruled the division for 7 years and went 15-0 in the Octagon.

Give the man the respect he has earned.
Stop reaching. Jon is being respectful. Phone Post 3.0

Why do guys get into the fight business to deny big fights? Why be a fighter if you're going to pick and choose who you fight? It defeats the entire purpose.

This isn't a team sport.

And if he would've said he would want to fight him you'd probably one of the first to say "there goes Jon calling out past their prime middleweights, what a douche." He definitely is not perfect but you guys go out of your way to hate on him.
