<p>UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones appeared in court for the first time, following his arrest for a hit and run accident on Sunday that left a pregnant woman with a broken arm. Jones stands accused of leaving an accident involving death or personal injuries; the felony charge has a penalty of up to three years in prison.</p>
Because the Bernadillo County District Attorney’s office has not indicted him yet, he did not enter a plea.
The Bernalillo County (NM) Metropolitan Court judge required Jones to meet the 'standard conditions for release':
•No alcohol;
•No drugs;
•No entering a liquor store; and
•The fighter has to stay in contact with his attorney.
The DA has 60 days to indict. Should they decide to, as this is a felony case, a grand jury hearing will be convened to decide if there is evidence sufficient to go forward with an indictment.
At present, Jones remains free on the $2,500 bond he posted Monday, and he is not restricted from traveling. This means there is no legal prohibition at present tohis fighting Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 on May 23, 2015 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
Either the UFC or the Nevada State Athletic Commission may pull Jones from the fight. As Erik Magraken details in his Combat Sports Law blog, the NSAC would have to determine that Jones was arrested for a crime involving moral turpitude. The UFC has a contract with Jones to fight on that date, and they would have to argue that he breached the Fighter Conduct Policy.
He VERY clearly breached the UFC fighter code of conduct, on multiple points. If the UFC goes ahead with this fight, they will look like an amateur organization and lose all credibility.
He needs to be disciplined, there is no other option.

I disagree strongly. In America you are innocent until proven guilty and you can't suspend him for something he has not said he did yet, IMO. Once it goes through court process and he does a plea deal, I can see him being suspended for 6-9 months but not until after the court case is done.
I really hope the UFC takes its time on this. They've reacted too quickly in the past (Cung Le and Thiago Silva to name two) and looked amateurish.
Like all companies however, the bottom line is profit so you can be sure they are exploring every possible way to make sure the Jones-Rumble fight happens.

Nick Diaz VERY clearly breached the UFC fighter code of conduct, on multiple points with his 2 DUI's, failure to appear in court, warrant issued for his arrest, driving on a suspended license, destruction of evidence, amongst other charges and he fought Anderson.
Were you as vocal about him being pulled from the Anderson fight too?
Everyone else? Did you all want the Anderson/Diaz fight pulled because Nick broke the UFC's code of conduct?
No way in hell this fight happens. They (The NSAC) banned Wand for life for running away from a piss test lol. This idiot runs from a car crash that involved a wounded pregnant woman. What do you think's gonna happen?
What bones did is definitly f up, but i have no problem with the fight still happening. It doesnt change jackshit. Hope Jones finally gets his shit together
Innocent until proven guilty, though its obvious he's guilty. I imagine until the facts are detrmined by the court, nothing can happen regarding discipline from the UFC or the NSAC. It's just hearsay and speculation at this point, technically. Hopefully he'll fight, get his ass handed to him, and then go to jail.
