Here are our guys results that I am aware of.
I took 3rd intermediate gi 225+
Yael took silver in womens advanced no-gi and gi. Losing to Nova uniao teamate Rebecca Sweeney in the no-gi final.
Daniel won intermediate under 225 Gi
Amir won intermediate under 204 gi and no-gi
Chris Ambas, a new addition to our club took 4th in the gi advance under 183 beating one purple belt. and 2nd no-gi beating two purple belts one of them by submission.
Eric Graham one of our white belts won a match in the advanced under 162 gi against a purple belt.
Vadim and Misha took Gold in their respective advanced gi divisions and Bronze in their no-gi advanced divisions.
Elmy lost to two time NCAA divison 3 runner up wrestler Ryan Citolli in advanced unsder 160 no-gi. So elmy did not repeat as champion, I don't know whether he took silver or another medal.
Frank, Michael, and little chris each won a match today. Anthony competed as well but I don't know his results.
Our buddy from Regina took 4th in advanced gi uner 162 I think.
My friend Sean Locke who moved to Montreal, and trains under GAMMA kicked butt and won the 183 Advanced Gi.
I am really proud of all of our Nova unaio family who came to compete and watch at the tourney.
The level of sportsmanship in the matches I reffed was unbelievable too. One guy actually asked me to give another fighter an extra 2 minutes before they would face each other in the final. A lot of laughing and friendship defined this well runned tournament, which showcased way better BJJ then most tournaments I have attended.
Congrats to everybody, and thanks to the joslins for setting the standard!!!
Kashk: From what I saw, YOU did an excellent job reffing. It is obvious
that you really love the sport!
Mike
I spoke with Kashk today and he's much more tolerable in person than on the 'net :)
To be fair to Kashk, it seems that he is getting more and more tolerable on the net all the time. And, no, you will not find anyone who loves BJJ more than Kashk.
Congrats to all our guys and gals. I wish I could
have made it.
Congratulations to all of Nova Uniao Canada!
ttt for Amir, congrats....
Who won the best sportsman trophy?
???
TTT for Karma, Just kidding! TTT for NOVA UNIAO CANADA! They did an excellent job! ALso BTT CANADA did an outstanding job!
Heck, everyone did awesome!
The Joslins boyz were really impressive too. Especially in the under 183 advanced gi. A great day of Jiu-Jitsu for what is definately Ontario's and probably Canada's premier event.
As for Dougie's question, I don't know, I think it would be a tie between most of the competitors I saw. I really mean that. Even the coaches were tame this year.
So no one knows who won my trophy?
Aw crap...
=(
Anyone know how chris Desautels from regina bjj do. If anyone can help that will be great.
Heard that Adam and Ron from Shah's both received
3rd places in their gi matches, and pinky also
received a third in his advanced gi match. Great work
guys!
Congrats to all the competitors, and thanks to all the refs, volunteers, and promoters. It was great to see everyone show great sportsmanship.
Rebellion JJ had many of it's new generation of students, many under a year of training, making their competitive debut at this tourney. Everyone did excellent!
Our highlight that day was Ahmed winning 4 matches (3 by submission and one by 10x2 or4 I think) to win his no-gi division - all while only having around 5 months of experience.
Jagmeet showed great composure and dominance in his matches, taking silver in his division, Bill took Bronze in his division w/ 2 subs. Greg took 4th I believe. I'm not sure of the rest of the placings since I was running from mat to mat, but I witnessed Andre winning his first match by choke; Fernando C winning a few of his matches, one by choke; Pete and Jeff winning two or three matches a piece; FernandoM and Reza fighting valiantly and representing well.
It was also great to see some good friends from different cities: Prof. Fabio Holanda, who is always great and always brings a kickass team. And Big Don, from Michigan who I haven't seen in ages, but who I hope to see again soon!
Congrats to all!
Wayne-O I am pretty sure that Pinky/Jon Loginow didn't take third as Chris Ambas won their match and only placed 4th.
PeDePano Fan Chris D. Was the buddy from Regina that I was referring to, and he took 4th in the advanced Gi.
