A judge offered to pay a teenage girl's court fine as he refused to jail her for stabbing the paedophile who abused her as a child.
Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC told the 15-year-old it would be a 'disgrace' to send her to prison, despite the fact she had attacked the man, 56, in his own home, stabbing him close to his heart.
The court heard the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, armed herself with a knife and stabbed her tormentor in the chest, severing a major artery, after she felt let down by the justice system.
He had sexually assaulted her when she was just eight years old, but was spared jail and was instead given a community order.
After the trial, the man had harassed and bullied the girl, the court heard, leaving her to feel like the legal system had let her down.
In November last year the girl, who was 14 at the time, armed herself with a large kitchen knife and went to his home in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
She told him: 'I am going to kill you,' and plunged the blade into him in front of his two young children.
The Judge refused to impose a mandatory victim surcharge on the girl when she appeared at Bradford Crown Court, after hearing that the paedophile had destroyed her life, adding: 'If anyone tries to force you, I will pay it myself.'
'It would be a disgrace to send a survivor like you to prison,' Judge Durham Hall added.
Not sure how I feel about this. Why wasn't the dude jailed to begin with if he was guilty? I don't know the specifics, but it seems like a scary precedent to let a teenage girl attempt murder six years later with no repercussion for her actions.
^^ Don't mean to come across as a conspiratard, but I think there's a significan element of corruption within the power system. Wherever we look, we find elected officials doing bad stuff, often things that they write laws against. In addition to being bad, they will do anything to appear to be law-abiding.
Agree on the allowing vigilantism being a bad precedent.
I think there needs to be more vigilantism. The system lets people down every single day and they continue to take more and more power because the people just let them. Good judge in my opinion hope she gets him next time
The fucked up part of the story is this "He had sexually assaulted her when she was just eight years old, but was spared jail and was instead given a community order." What is a "community order" and why the fuck would someone who molested an 8 year old be allowed to walk free with no prison time? How is he allowed to be anywhere near her or even contact her in anyway? That is disturbing and the system absolutely did fail her.

That's a great question. How are you found guilty of molesting a kid but don't face jail time?
The other shitty part here is the girl tried to kill the guy in front of his two kids. No idea if he's a good dad or if those kids are getting diddled, but now that's two more kids that have pretty good odds of being fucked up. That's a traumatic thing to witness.

We live in a society setup by laws. If those laws are broken and the system doesnt react accordingly, then it is up to yourself to take care of it. Especially when you are living in fear and have been abused by the person. A friend of mines son was raped by his mothers boyfriend. Choked out, burned etc just all sorts of disgusting shit. Broke his arm also, which he still deals with to this day. If I happened to be with him and he saw his ex or that guy, id gladly help him get rid of the bodies. Scum like that need to be taken out. If the system cant do the job, then we the people should.
The ex actually almost got her throat slit in prison when chicks on her unit found out what she was in there for. He tried to find out the ladies name that did it so we could throw some money in her books, but for some reason he couldnt get the info.
There is nothing wrong with vigilante's. There is too much corruption and piss poor law enforcement to not have it be part of a health society. I am not telling everyone to run around like Judge Dredd, but when the system fails you, you need to take action.
That's my kind of judge, not just for offering to pay the fine, but for refusing to impose it, though required, on moral grounds.
It would be nice in judges in the US would do the same in some of our mandatory minimum cases, and just flat refuse to impose live in prison with no parole for victimless crimes.
