Dave Garcia is going to be teaching a judo class on Saturdays, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m., @ the Combat Sports & Fitness Club (CSF)located in the Livonia Mall @ 7 Mile and Middlebelt Roads.
It will unique in that he will encompass no gi judo training in addition to traditional judo. The no gi training will be judo as applied to submission wrestling and mma competition.
In addition to being a black belt in judo Dave is accomplished in folk/freestyle/greco/sambo wrestling and had a very successful stint as a mma/nhb competitor renowned for his spectacular judo throws within the cage.
postscript: Dave goes way back with my family in the world of judo/grappling and I am very proud of the fact he is now working on a doctorate in psychology. Following the potent sword/pen equation in life.
Taking it slow bro. Non-the-less it sure is a rat race.
Still under the bridge and like the entire State of Michigan I have evolved into a troll now. Working 72 hours per week and it sucks. I have some dumbells, push-up bars and judo tubes in my van so I can squeeze in some training while I'm there.
Hey, did you ever use the judo tubes sold by KWON? Man, they are strong bands of rubber and are great for traps (shrugs), lats (seated, wrap tubes around pole), curls, triceps, uchikomis. You can really get a good workout with those things. They are nothingn like the sissified ones sold in stores and they provide a lot of resistence. I double or triple them up depending on the exercise.
Osaekomi,
Thank you for the kind words, it means a lot to me. I hope that I can impart even half the knowledge, skill, & warrior spirit that was freely given to me by you.
While my first official class will be the 24th, I will be at CSF today (11/17) from 1-4pm. Everyone gets a free class so just come in and bring your gi.
Crap!!! I have to work 2marow. I will be there next saturday. Dave is the man!
CSF is located at: 29616 Seven Mile Road, Livonia Mi. 48152. It is in the back north-west parking lot next to killer paintball and the old mervins. The door has "MMA" and the logo on it.
First class was dedicated to using judo to compliment a right handed boxing/striking stance. Setting up clinches, off-balancing Uke with knees, Uchi Mata, kick-and-pick and Tai Otoshi from a whizzer grip, submisions and transissions to mount from a scarf-hold position. I dig tailoring judo to fit people's personal fighting style. Most people seem interested in learning the applied techniqu as opposed to traditional Judo. I'd like to do more traditioanl randori and then take off the pants and jacket. Taht way we can get some Judo comps in as well as grappling, MMA, kickboxing, or whatever brings people in to work on there game. I look forward to the next class. Saturday, Dec 1 from 1-3 at CSF (located in Livonia mall at 7 mile and Middlebelt - ph# 248.442.2202).
Dave, I dont knwo if you are interested, but USA Judo now has a military liason whose role is to help promote judo programs within the military.... you might be able to get a few students that way...
Hell, I wouldnt fuck with a marine who trained Garcia Judo, Thats for damn sure.....It would suck to attack a guy with a knife, get thrown and stabbed with it!!
