I know jumping rope, if done correctly and with some intensity, can be a very good anaerobic exercise. The jump rope I have now is very stiff and gets tangled up very easily. Can anyone recommend a good jump rope? I am looking for something that I can use for basic tricks and with some speed, so that I can maximize the effects of the workout.
nah its just the cord is always stiff and has to be untangled before every use. Like if I were to do criss crosses with it, it wouldn't form a loop when crossing my arms, instead it would just like tangle up. the cord is pretty thick too.
ya who knows. Maybe it's me, but I def have used some other ropes and they weren't like the one I have. Even though they are cheap, I don't want to just keep buying ropes until I find one I like. So I am trying to find multiple opinions, and maybe a rope that everyone likes.
Cheap vinyl ropes are the best IMO. $5, they last forever and they don't have any moving parts.
You mentioned your rope needs to be untangled--try hanging it up when you're not using it. That will keep it from getting those little kinks and bends in it.
i was going to start a new thread, but ill just hijack this one:
whats the best way building up to a specific time of jumping rope? my new MT coach wants us to warm-up with a 15min rope jump but i havent got the endurance yet.
Do i just wake up & jump everyday to failure, or add a 1 min everyday, or do 3x 5mins etc.?

depends. If you are unable to jump continously, just work on getting that down. Do short rounds, 1-2 minutes, and take a 1 min. rest in between. You can do 5-10 rounds that way without overtraining, and your timing and skill will increase quickly.
that said, vary the time on the rope day to day--5 rounds one day, 10 the next, 3 the day after that, etc. Once you can get through 4-5 1 min. rounds easily start working toward 2-3 min. rounds.
