non-profit? Is this a Fila event with Fila rules?
It is not a FILA event and doesn't use FILA Rules. What I mean by Not-For-Profit is that ALL profit will be used towards future tournaments and making them better.
None of the profit will be spent personally. It will all go into a bank account and spent on the next tournament. We plan to have 4 Regional tournaments in Ontario (SWO, North, East/Ottawa, & GTA) with winners being sponsored to the Provincials.
Once we get this working smoothly I hope to copy it and work with hosts/clubs in other provinces to do the same.
In a few years (hopefully 2-3) and the multi-provincial tournaments running smoothly we will sponsor the provincial winners to go to a National Tournament.

If this is not FILA, Who is running? and what rules are used?
This event is sanctioned and insured by the OGA.
The rules used are those of the ISGA out of USA. http://www.kickusa.com/International-Sport-Grappling-Association.html
I chose these rules as I like the Simulated Submission rule for the safety of the youth competitors.
Who sanctions the event is not important to me as long as it is insured and the rules are safe for the athletes.
The more kids tournaments there are the more the sport can grow.
So, how could this be a BJJ provincial for kids, if you use rules that are not BJJ and you are not an Ontario Association for BJJ?
Sorry for all the questions, I am just trying to understand this.
BJJ is not a set of rules but a style of Martial Arts.
Would you say that Abu Dhabi, ADCC, or Grappler's Quest are not BJJ because they don't use the IBJJF rules?
This tournament is to promote BJJ in a safe and fun environment for kids. Nothing more - nothing less.
well, I just think that when you say you are doing a provincial bjj tournament you should follow the same rules. nothing more - nothing less. Is not because I like more throws, that I will give more points for that.
ADCC and Grapplers Quest are both grappling tournaments, and they dont say they are the provincial or national BJJ tournament.
This isn't a provincial tournament either. This is simply a tournament.
I would like to grow to do a provincials based upon regional qualifiers.
I am glad that you are asking questions as that does show interest. I also find our discussion on what is and is not BJJ interesting. I have created another thread so that this thread is not taken off of its intended purpose.
I will also post the rules here soon. I believe that you will find them very similar to IBJJF rules.
How would you do a provincial if you are not the provincial body for the sport?
If is not a BJJ why you mention BJJ in the tournament name?
I use BJJ in the tournament name as it is a tournament for those that study and wish to compete in the Martial Art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Regarding the Provincials, I will gladly be sanctioned by the Provincial Body of the sport if that is what is necessary.
As I stated before, it doesn't matter to me who sanctions the events as long as they are insured and the rules are safe for the athletes. The more kids tournaments there are the more the sport can grow.
If you call your tournament "BJJ", the "purists" will crawl all over you. Call it grappling or submission wrestling.
I brought out my team of kids last year in Barrie and they loved the format. It was well run , well reffed and safe for the kids doing subs. I will bring a bigger team to this one.
dsc166 said it all, I dont care about the rules, I care about correct information and a good tournament. When you say BJJ people expect to see BJJ rules, if you call grappling, than you could use whatever rules you want, BJJ, ADCC, or the rule you like better.
I understand that calling BJJ can bring more people, but as dsc166 said can get the purists upset. But who cares, is just the name with small changes, you could call 'MMA' and say the rules are a bit different, no punches and kicks allowed and instead a cage would be in a matted surface.
There really is no one/single provincial body for the sport of BJJ in Ontario. (I could be wrong)
There are however different organizations/federations/associations. A few of these are very well organized, established and work hard for the BJJ scene.
People have run different tournies under associations/organizations/federations.
Calling something Provincial is done in every support. The Provincial Youth Hockey blah blah, Niagara Provincial volley ball blah blah, etc....
Each different association/organization/federation could have a Provincial Tourney.
I gave several people your OGA website before realizing there is no mention or link to this tournament on the home page.
TitanBJJ - well, I just think that when you say you are doing a provincial bjj tournament you should follow the same rules. nothing more - nothing less. Is not because I like more throws, that I will give more points for that.
ADCC and Grapplers Quest are both grappling tournaments, and they dont say they are the provincial or national BJJ tournament.
Grapplers quest in London, October last year was a national championship tourney. They had a big sign over the main entrance "grapplers quest Canadian nationals"
