At the time I thought Gustaffson had it easy rounds 1-3.
But man, Jones is a tough tough SOB. He took everything Gustaffson had and kept coming forward. Every right he took to his jaw, he had 2 kicks to the leg and the body. Always moving forward. I think now that 49-46 is not a bad scorecard at all.
I think I'd even give Jones 1-3 and then 5. Other than the one spinning elbow that staggered Gustaffson, he got thoroughly battered in the 4th.
What a fight! I wish more fighters will show such pure aggression. Sucks there is no immediate rematch. Fuck it. I'm gonna watch it again.

Yaaaaa I gave Gus that fight. Dude was landing head shots at will. Jones only had leg kicks and body kicks to counter.
Aside from the spinning elbow of doom in the 4th round. Jones didnt do much but block punches with his face.
A much much closer fight than GSP vs Hendricks tho.
Hendricks mauled GSP. When he fights Lawler thatll be his first Title Defense.

It wasn't like Jones wasn't landing on Gustaffson's face. I love aggressive fighters, man. Other than Cain, Jones, Weidman, Rousey, Barao to some extent, no other active fighter has that in your face aggression. Maybe Diaz bros too?

Wish we could have another fight like that. No other fight on the horizon looks like it has the capability to match that.

I agree, OP. Either way, the fight was close, but Jones was on the offensive through most of the fight. I remember the fourth round being called, "Jones best round" but Gus dominated it until the last minute or so. However, other than that clear period of domination, Jones controlled the fight. Alexander was mostly countering with inside leg kicks, and slick hand combos. In the end, I felt that Jones won the fight, not handily, but by a narrow margin.

Agreed. I keep flip-flopping every time I see the fight. Hope Gustaffson wins in London.
I also hope Jones is not really broken from the fight. His fight has been rescheduled so many times, I hope it is nothing mental :-o
I also think Jones definitely underestimated Gus' TDD and almost paid for that with a loss in his record. But Jones showed his heart in that fight and beat Gus standing in the end.
That was Gus' fight to win, Jones knows exactly what he needs to do now. Gus can't really do anything differently, Jones by decision if the rematch ever happens.

That flurry Jones mounted in the 4th round, the one Rogan was freaking out about, I don't think Gus was as "hurt" as Rogan claimed. I've watched the fight like 6 times, and payed close attention to Gus's body language during that part. He was certainly "stunned", but he wasn't close to going down. I think Jones was more "hurt" overall. The dude could hardly stand at the end, and his face looked like he'd suffered severe burns.
With that said, I thought Jones won.

It also sucks that he is fighting Glover next instead of a rematch. Glover could have fought a top-10 opponent instead which he still hasn't done.

Dont like jones but he won the fight, but not by much. Gustaffson still has a very good shot at beating him in a rematch. And then theres still glover and even worse cormier. Hes definetly losing his belt this year.
