I have 3 years of BJJ and I just took my first Judo class. Some things I noticed:
I got thrown everywhere, their balance standing up is really, really good.
The ground fighting in Judo is pretty bad, at least in the class I was in. They were all like low level white belts in BJJ.
Evey time I would get a dominant position when we grappled, they would stop the damn match! Like I would get mount and the teacher would stop the match, and back even! It was kind of annoying.
For some stupid reason, only brown belts can do straight armbars. And you cant clasp your hand around a person neck on the ground, which makes no sense.
95% of the people I face when we grappled would try to just pass my guard, get scraff hold position, and just lay there until they restart it.
Overall I like the class a lot. My throws suck, hopefully this class will improve this part of my game.
there is no rule against chokes on the ground. in fact most of the
submissions you'll see judoka do are gi chokes from the mount (tate
shiho)
judo is fun as hell. I dont understand why they would hold off when their in your gaurd
Judo is wicked fun, and should be even more so for BJJers. I loved my judo class, and I can't wait to go back for more standing beatings.

ok guy, you get a dominant position in judo, and can hold for 20-25 secs, you then win. Its the rules, doesn't matter if you like it or not. Plus the fact that when you hit the ground you have to be quick to get the pin or the tap, so you can play a slow bjj game when you hit the ground. As for only browns doing armbars, well it may be that they just don't get into the technical aspects of armbars and other subs until brown (every judo dojo is different, some wait till brown while some like mine have you learn waaaay earlier). Can't clasp your hand around the neck? Like doing getting head and arm from guard? If they said you can't do that they are misinformed as that is legal in judo.
Sounds like you went to a judo school with a bigger emphasis on throwing. That's cool, as that is the main focus of some schools. Just relax and have fun, as your standing game is about to go through the roof!
Different places have different rules regarding armbars. For example, in some of the big Judo orgs in california, (the USJF), I think only 1st browns can do armlocks in tournaments, something like that.
Where are you taking Judo classes?
Have fun!
