Several weeks have passed since Martin Kampmann lost a split-decision to Diego Sanchez at UFC Live on Versus 3.
"I still feel I won the fight," Kampmann stated. "I can maybe see the judges seeing his aggression as a factor. Sometimes people get a lot of credit for that and coming forward swinging wildly and even though they weren't landing, sometimes the judges score that."
"I think the judges gave him the nod for his aggression and moving forward and I don't disagree with the aggression part but it has to be effective aggression that is rewarded. Just running forward and throwing punches in the air is not going to hurt me. You can look at his face and then look at mine and any 5 year old down the street can tell you who got beat up in the fight."
"My style used to be all about going forward and getting into that brawl every single fight ... This bout I tried to keep my spacing and really pick him apart which I did a good job at doing ... Even with my back to the cage I was landing but he was throwing these wild punches that he eventually got rewarded for and I think was maybe just a little undeserved."
"It's up to the UFC and two losses don't look good but everybody who has seen my last two fights should know that I can compete with the best and I can put anybody in trouble."
"I would love to rematch Diego. I feel I won the first time but I would love to fight him again. If I was him I wouldn't want the rematch either because imagine how his face would look after the second fight. I would love to beat him up one more time and hopefully not leave it up to the judges this time.
I do feel he got screwed here but he doesn't ever finish strong when it counts. He didn't fight smart in this fight or the shields fight. You know the judges are fucking retarded so plan accordingly
You guys serious? For all of you guys talking about "finishing," Diego didn't finish either. With a decision you have to go w/ Kampman he clearly won via points.
I didn't mean "finish" Diego as on ko or sub just finish with a stronger performance. He does great in the early rounds but chokes later. The opposite is true in the shields fight
JimmersonzGlove - The 10 point must system in its current incarnation doesn't work for 3 round fights...and thats without taking into consideration retarded judges and head in the sand athletic commissions
kampmann is a top welterweight contender with a lot of skills. but after 2 fights he could have won decisively had he been a little more aggressive he needs to start finishing guys
I agree with Kampmann, but looking back on his past few fights, he might want to start being more aggressive and move forward more, because his style obviously doesn't appeal to the judges :(

its a double edge sword.. still got be aware of all the takedown artist in the big show.. however his defense was on point that night
Kampmann was robbed. I admire Diego's heart in that fight but he did not win that fight. He landed some of his wild punches, but most of the time he was hitting nothing but air.
