Was not a Ford fan before this, but he has done great and won respect from people of all political stripes.
Good move. Even if we are being overzealous we will be better off if we move together. I know people are hurting. I also know there are a lot of people just bitching about wearing a mask. There is lots of government assistance. Almost everyone is being lenient. We will get through it and we don't want this to be the seeds of division.
There is no "truth" in this. So caution is warranted.
There is no "truth" in this, so fire anyone who disagrees with the boss's opinion?
Personally I think that lockdowns have been a terrible idea, and I think that hindsight will show that when all the data is tallied up. But worse than that is something like this, where politicians are effectively fired for simply questioning the narrative. The whole point of a democracy is to argue viewpoints.
If the bosses opinion is based on the opinion of experts, and disagreeing with the boss puts lives at risk, then yeah, you're fired.
Jesus. I know bootlicker gets thrown around as an insult way too often, but that's genuinely the most bootlicking serious response I've ever seen.
Disagreeing doesn't put lives at risk, discussions aren't dangerous. Though if that MPPs point are accurate (and they might be since noone on fords side has rebutted them) then it's Ford's actions that could be costing lives. Absolutely shitty attitude for a grown man to have.

Ha been to Peel region?
Unity is not the word I’d use.
Grew up there
yeah well I live and work there and, it’s got the highest infection rate per 100,000 people and has had that mantle since Halloween.
I have lived in Canada for about six months. The Canadians I talk to are scared to death. Talking about people dropping like flies in the States, how bad it is in Ontario etc..
So I'm like, I can tell them my perspective as a "crazy American" or just let them go on thinking they're going to die if they get it because they're a smoker.

Militaries aren't a democracy, but military disasters usually are built on people not questioning bad orders anyway.

mike I have to disagree wholeheartedly.
This guy was “elected” by the people
The constituents are his bosses…not Doug Ford.
If the people want him gone… vote him out
Doug Ford should not be overriding the will of the people.
people do things every day that put others lives at risk… and when you walk out the door you are assuming some level of risk.
this lockdown isn’t helping…cases have continued to rise
but it is crushing business.
The lockdowns are the same measures taken in 1918 to battle the Spanish Flu and again in early 2020… Are you telling me that in 100 years we haven’t figured a better way to fight a pandemic than lock down shut business and wear a mask?
we did it in the spring… and here we are a year later… it didnt work then and its not working now
From what I have seen, he is not overriding the will of the people.
Of my friends, family and collegues - which includes teachers, health care workers, and mostly small business owners - only a couple of FB "friends" are complaining about the strategy. Everyone else is quietly following the guidlines and being kept above water by various government programs (literally except me as me and my business fall through every crack in the support programmes).
You seem calm and respectful. I think I like you.
A note about businesses going under: IMO businesses that were strong before, will survive as they are gettng reimbursed by the government based on previous year's sales, and wages are being subsidised. Business that are failing now are in one of 2 categories: 1) they were not doing well to begin with and this is a good excuse 2) they were just getting started at the start of the shutdown, and so have that disadvantage + no previous sales upon which to base subsidies (me btw) so they don't qualify.
I think it's just the OG and a couple people on FB who post incessantly that are against lockdowns and certain that they don't work. Here they seem to be obsessed with gov't overreaching their powers and if you mention that it doesn't even make sense since they're cutting off their own tax revenue, they call you a sheep.

Here's the deal.
We know who this virus targets. The elderly and those with pre-existing conditions. Those are the people who we should be advising to stay home, not the rest of the population who have an infinitesimal risk of harm.

In the UK our lockdowns are driven by our hospital capacity. I think that's the sensible way to do it.
Unfortunately, we're a bit fucked at the moment!! I know nurses who are working their fannies off (I mean male ones too :-)) roll on the God damn summer!

there is nothing sensible about taking an approach that kills your small businesses because youre concerned about hospital capacity for a virus that we now understand has a very low death rate and for which theraputics and other treatments have evolved greatly.
That one person even thinks killing these small businesses is in any way acceptable makes me feel like Im living in the twilight zone
There is no other party that could have dealt with this better for Ontario than Ford's Conservatives.
Currently the hospital capacity is not doing well with this crisis with hospitals past capacity and recently morgues having to bring in storage for bodies.
Sure a better solution could be around the corner but we don't have the ability to execute it on the short notice.
But it's cool on teh OG to be edgy and rail against the man.

Don’t even try arguing with this piece of shit. He didn’t deserve the freedom he had before.

Your hospital capacity and morgue argument is total bs. Both are equivalent to numbers seen in 2019 and 2018 during this time of the year (look it up)…
the main of I believe 2 morgues having the problem are tied into the same logistical system. London has said they will straighten it out in a couple of days but are backlogged due to the change in procedures or words to that affect.
MP Roman Baber just issued a statement and in it, these sourced statistics for Ontario
Hospital and ICU capacity 2017 – Jan 5th 2021
Time period Dec2017 Dec2018 Dec2019 Dec2020 Jan 5th,2021

As of January 4th, 2021 the ICU occupancy rate was 80.6% – with Covid responsible for just 16% of the 80.6% of ICU beds occupied.
On no planet is this worth destroying small businesses and peoples mental health. Not even close.
Totally agree. Suicide rates (alone) have exceeded CV deaths because of shutdown’s, job losses, small businesses going under, etc. On top of suicide, domestic and child abuse has rises, drug use (and deaths) and substance abuse has also gone up.
Makes no fucking sense that a LCBO or Walmart can remain open yet gyms (who have shown the lowest source of spread) have to close…
people are fuckin scared retards. I cant believe how idiotic people are that think killing businesses is any sort of solution. The real shitshow starts when these morons stop getting CRB and they try to look for work. There is going to be nothing out there. No one will be hiring at all.
