with Liddel,GSP, and Machida all being the top fights. Their styles are heavily influenced by traditional striking. I predict they use their striking skills to defeat the wrestler, muay thai, and judo fighters
Keiths...are you talking about the karates of the 80's or the karate (UFC) of the 2000's?
GB
GSP= Heavy Boxing influence in his striking mixed with MT and a little KK
Liddell=Hackleman's hybrid of boxing, kickboxing and kempo
Machida=Look like someone took alot of MT and boxing lessons as well
GSP and Machida are Kyokushin. Stop trying to make it seem like they did McDojo TaeKwonDo.
You guys need to get your facts straight. People all across the TMA boards are cheering them on and it will be considered a battle won should they be victorious
Mach and GSP are very sound fighters with good basics of striking down. I have never done a TMA but my friends that have and even competed were not very sound in what most people would understand to be the basics.
i have seen many bjj guys who couldnt take down a high school athlete who has never grappled a day in his life.(and their whole style depends on being on the ground)
and alot of them compete at high levels. everyone art has its share
Well I don't think most TMA's teach a good stance, combos etc...
yes and machida/liddels combos resemble those much more than boxing.
gsp an argument can be made for but his kicks tell the tail. he does have nice boxing foundation to go on top though
I'm pretty sure Machida trained in Shotokan, not Kyokushin.
"GSP and Machida are Kyokushin. Stop trying to make it seem like they did McDojo TaeKwonDo."
Amen. Whatever Tae kwon Do is, Kyokushin is the opposite!
what is kyokushin I'm not familiar with it
kyokushin is legit karate plain and simple.
Bare knuckle karate. In competition there's no pads, you can kick and knee anywhere(except to the groin of course) and punch and elbow to the body. The scoring is on DAMAGING blows, not just contact like TaeKwon Do.
The training is VERY brutal and unforgiving. My first martial art.
""kyokushin is legit karate plain and simple."""
Andy Hug was a prime example.
Here's a pic of me back in the day at a tourney after fighting like 8 people
But wtih Kyokushin, if you want to transition to MMA or K-1 you're gonna have to work hard on your boxing, because of the ban of face punches for Kyokushin competition
LOL
is that funny golden boy?
Was it 8 people or was it like 8 people?
gb if your doubting his experience carrying over to MMA check his record. 9-0. how can you argue with that?
