I think Gene Lebel said rhonda and karo will be future stars when they were kids then.
He tore his quad and never fully recovered also got hooked on meds.

Young Karo was a monster
iirc, he suffered from anxiety attacks before fights, blew off a fight with late notice because of it.
Sad he was a great fighter. Those stupid pills are an epidemic :/

Men and women mma are different. women mma is easier bc they are less athletic. So if you are athletic like rousy you destroy the other girls
Judo is only moderately effective in a few places in MMA. The reason Ronda's works so well is that the women's division is technically awful
The difference between the two is Karo's throws almost always landed him in a bad position. He could throw guys super hard but usually ended up on the bottom because of it. Rhonda on the other hand usually lands in control making her throws that much more effective.

Karo was all about the big flashy ippons that would have ended a judo match.
Ronda is all about the newaza, so she'll sacrifice some of the impact of the throw in order to land in a good position to start working her ground game.
That is what makes Ronda different from a lot of judoka in MMA. Most of them are more like Karo, with the throw being the objective, rather than like Ronda, where the throw is a means to an end.
Karo had a ton of talent and potential physically. Mentally he had some problems. And then the pills came in and he imploded. It was sad because I think he could have brought a lot to MMA.
Karo was light years away in men judo from RR level in women judo. It would be cool to see how current man champions in their prime would do if they would have any interest in leaving judo grand slam competition circuit for mma. All mma judokas were making such transition way past their prime (excluding RR, Fedor, Ogawa and Akiyama).
The oxy fucked him up bad, even physically he has never been the same.
