I agree that adding restrictive rules is a bad idea, but I wish they'd change the design of the gi to make it more difficult to use some of these lapel guard techniques. Not because they have no carryover to no gi or MMA, but because they put the bottom guy at a ridiculous advantage.

IMO if no gi weren't so awfully slippery instead (rashguards today are practically teflon), it would be the perfect format. No lapel skirts, no super dominant belt grips, no pulling the opponent's boxers off his ass – basically, fewer incentives to work from bottom.
