I think elbows should be banned in mma because if you watched tuf one Florian beat Chris Leben almost entirely on having elbows so pointy they would make the Og sick. No disrespect to Florian mind you I understand he was a natural lw fighting middleweights. Most Dutch mauy Thai has banned elbows and pride banned elbows. Do you think that elbows should be completely banned from mma, why or why not.

They should just take it to the scorecards on a cut. Not automatically award the fight to the person doing the cut. Doesn't boxing have a rule that takes it to the scorecards on a cut?

with regards to the fedor thing: elbows were illegal in the tournament. But the cut inflicted on fedor from the illegal elbow was so bad he couldn't have moved on (it was a one night tourney). They needed someone for the next round so declared fedors opponent the winner when really it was a no contest.

Kenny Florian's elbows are not effective because they are pointy. That is like saying Mike Tyson hits hard because his hands are big.
The Hellbows are effective because Florian has excellent technique.
I have watched, more so in grappling that in MMA, that as new techniques are introduced, they are super dangerous, and then people learn them.
In the 90s, Heel Hooks were destroying people. Then people learned to defend, and now they are no more special than anything else. I remember the Arm In Guillotine coming into the sport maybe eight years ago or so. I was reffing one of Burton Richardson's guy, and didn't even one point for a submission attempt for what looked like a front headlock to me, and the opponent went to sleep. Now, like the Guillotine before it, the basic defense is widely known. I had a run of at least three guys having their elbow popped out from the standing guilltone, but have not had that happen in many years now.
Same thing will happen with elbows, and no one need worry much then.
