Knife Throwing... Anyone else?

I recently got into no-spin knife throwing.  It's amazing how accurate and powerful you can hit with a heavy knife.  I've kind of gotten obsessed with it.  I throw for at least an hour a day but I'm building an indoor target this weekend so I'll probably do more.

Anyone else into knife throwing?  Specifically no-spin throwing?

In.

Ideally id like a target for knife and hatchet throwing.  Both are fun.

What kind of knives you using? Does altofsky do throwers yet?

I messaged him about it.   I'm assuming he gets quite a few messages.

I'm using these:

SZCO Supplies Heavy Throwing Knife Set (3-Piece) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FNNT4XS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6TBUCbNVG8349

Loving them so far.  It's amazing how lethal these can be.   I want to hog hunt with a heavy throwing Bowie.

That’s one of those skills I’ve always wanted to have, but can’t figure out a single practical use for.

Same thing. Ever since I was a kid and saw it in a movie, I thought it would be cool to learn

How about - when you need to stab someone 10 feet away? You gonna walk over like a pussy?

Nice I’ll check these out. Though I’m not sure I’ll be able to get delivery here in the UK due to irresponsible members of the public using their knives to actually stab each other.

Some people haven’t figured out the fun of throwing knives yet.

Knife Throwing? Pffft.

Knife Catching. Now that's a sport worth practicing.

I think it is a very practical skill.  I can hit a playing card consistantly at 10'.  These knives are heavy, around a pound.  Some are two pounds.  The kinetic energy is impressive.  They will cut through rib bones and go into the abdominal cavity.  They could literally go through a person with a hard throw.

The cool thing is, once you get good at no spin knife throwing you can throw almost anything.  Shovels, butter knives, steak knives, nails, spatulas, screwdrivers, machetes, swords, anything.  There are videos of people throwing these things very effectively.

You could literally be sitting across the table from someone and throw your steak knife into their neck without getting up.

There is a really adorable chick on Youtube called Xolette.  You can learn to throw from her videos.  That's what I did.  She has a lot of good info and she's so cute that you enjoy watching them.

You would be impressed how much progress you can make in just a few hours.  Once you start sticking them regularly, it's addictive.  You will be throwing and not even realize an hour has passed.

Does anyone know how to get in touch with altofsky?  I've messaged here with no luck.  I've seen his work over the years and am interested in some custom throwers.

I see your starship troopers and raise you with James motherfucking Coburn.

On the list of super spy skills I always wanted to have but just haven’t gotten around to

Fuck it’s a nightmare getting this shit to the UK.

Just ordered this axe

Draper 28756 560g 1.25lb Hand Axe with Steel Shaft

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B009VYBF82/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_D9CWCbRS3JH0C

Which has good reviews but I don’t think it’ll be a great throwing axe... I needed an axe anyway but still. Anyone used anything like this for throwing?

Also ordered these knives (the ones you linked OP won’t ship to UK sadly)

These are my first for throwing so any advice appreciated.

pros/cons on no spin vs spinning knife throwing?

My wife is far better than I am at it. Takes me longer to get the feel for distance and turns, but once I get the feel for a particular knife I'm quite accurate.

I believe OP and I spoke via email. Unfortunately my books are closed at the moment. Got a backlog of orders to fill and a full shop renovation to tackle.

Alvis Solis used to post here, as “Hound Dog” his Dog Brother name. He is a BJJ BB, Dog Brother, Kali, Eskrima, etc… and all around cool guy. He got into knife throwing not too long ago.

Bullseye Blades is one of his favorite throwing knife makers, they are on Facebook.

I play around from time to time, but totally suck at it. I’ll hit several in a row and THINK I’ve figured it out, then go right back to Homeslicing it.

I've tried throwing knives spinning style. I sucked at it. Almost always bounced off whatever tree I was aiming for.

I prefer instinctive/no spin throwing.

If you throw with spin, you need to know your range.  How you hold the knife changes based on distance.  With no spin, you just throw it.  You develope muscle memory.  I can stick it from 2' out to 20' without having to think of how to hold my knife.  I can throw 6 knives in about 3 seconds with the no spin method.  I can hold 3 in each hand and throw them no-reload style.  No spin is just fun.

I spin throw too, because it's fun in it's own way.  But if I had to choose one it would be instinctive/no spin knife throwing.

I guess I'm about to drop $180 for a 3 knife set of Arrows from Flying Steel, when they have them back in stock.   When Altofsky is taking custom work again I have an idea for some throwing spikes I want made.
