Going for a 50/50 ball in a soccer match about 2 hours ago. Collided with a player and slammed my head really hard into the ground. Lost 3-4 seconds from the time hitting to waking up. People said it looked really bad.
Did the count-backwards thing to test for a concussion (not sure how accurate) and did fine. My head still moderately hurts. I'm only a tad nauseous.
I'm 31 and it's my first time being knocked out. Any advice / suggestions?
Take your time getting back into any contact situations.

MMA Playwright - Take your time getting back into any contact situations. Thanks for the reply. Do I play it by ear or is there a standard amount of time - Days, weeks?

If you are physically sick, you need to see a doctor. Concussion can take hours to present its full effects. Also suggest having someone else around to keep a precautionary eye on you.
Take care.

I'm no medical professional by any means. I just know that you're better off erring on the side of caution.
Back in 2010, I saw Emanuel Steward speak. He talked about the KO that Tommy Hearns put on Roberto Duran, and he said that Duran's people knew that he had to take at least a year off after that KO, which was off-the-charts brutal. He said that you really have to scale your time away to the severity of the KO. Getting it right is the trick, though, and I don't have any good advice in that regard.
Anyway, be well and rest up.
Losing consciousness, a headache and nausea after a collision would get any player on the soccer team I coach a one way ticket to the emergency room.
I've had 3 diagnosed concussions, possibly 8 total. They suck. Rest, rest, rest.
Head meet ground... That shits the worst man, hope you feel better
Thanks everyone for your feedback and support. It is much appreciated.

Were you recently unplugged from the Matrix?
Whatever you do............... don't fall asleep
Also a heads up, if you got ko'ed make sure you stay away from neural stimulation. Smartphones, computers, tv, reading. Wear sunglasses to protect your eye sensitivity.
I work at a high school as a strength coach/football coach, and we have a 7 day clearance policy in which you have to clear certain steps to proceed further along to get cleared for return to play. Minimum of 7 days, could take more than that though.

I do know that attempt step 1, if you clear the next day you go onto 2. If you continue passing your done in 5-7 days. If you fail a step just re-assess the next day starting at the last cleared stage.

It's pretty simple, but always smart to take care of your noggin boss

MMA Playwright -Great link. Thank you.
I usually work 10 hours a day writing code, balancing game values, and designing user interfaces ... Essentially the opposite of minimal cognitive activity.
Going to be difficult, but if that study is remotely accurate, best idea will be to call in. Sounds like they want you to turn your brain off for a few days. Also sounds like they're banning me from the OG (sons of bitches). Maybe I can learn how to meditate.

Go to the doc. Sounds like you are concussed.
