Konan Judo Tournamnet at MSU Sunday

A quick rundown on the competition Sunday. Once again (Frenchman) Oscar Lahoud from Ann Arbor/UM fought up in the very competitive 81K brkt and won. His final match was against MSU alum (Russian) Reo SHIRAISHI. The match ended after 5 min. regulation with yuko score each. In 3 min OT, neither scored and the 3 refs all decided to award Oscar. (Walt, this wasn't an MSU vs UM thing). Reo also fought in the tough 90K brkt and won. Both of these competitors are outstanding judo players with their individual styles. Oscar is typical "french" judo with close in attacks and multiple throws ( kata garuma, Harai goshi, sumi gaeshi, hip throws, foot sweeps. Where the Russian style is more defensive looking for the big throws (Uchi mata, toma nage) to end the match. Shairaishi is opening his own judo school in the East Lansing area for those interested. Consolation to Demytrov the Ukranian player from Orion Judo who injured his leg in the 81K brkt fighting Shairaishi for 2nd place and couldn't finish. His only loss was to Oscar and has skills are on par with Oscar and Shairashi.

WoW thats great! Man that will add so much to anyones MMA game to spend time with Oscar! Hope to see some seminars.

Oscar is best judo player in the state and probalby soon to leave Michigan as he completed his Medical Degree from UM. He was giving up (20 LBS lbs) to the Russian. His return to the sport the past 2 years after a 5 year absense has been the highlight of Michigan judo. He hasn't lost a competition match. If anyone is interested in contacting Oscar Lahoud for a judo seminar, his email is HIOSCAR@UMICH.EDU. I have seen some of the best competition judo from a 160 lb guy.

well If i didnt say Quincy was the best judo player in the state i think i would get my ass kick next time i see him. Still great job to Oscar!

Different kind of judo than I do..Oscar would throw me for a brutal pajama ippon!

All Oscars wins I have seen in past 2 years (except) the Russian were by ippon. ON the mat his favorite technique is sankaku jime. Anyone who can last 5 minutes with him (in competition) is exceptional judo player in themselves.
