Scott Barret 7-1 pro HW is fighting one of the top HW's in the world Mu Bao Choi who is also bronzed in the olympics in Greco. Scott is also a former D1 wrestling standout. This fight is going to be fireworks with two great wrestlers brawling. The one and only Lil John "doo doo" Brown is fighting Kim. Kim and Choi both are veterans of Pride with both guys fighting the best. Kim has fought the likes of Dennis Kang and many others. I cant wait. Big Rocky Overstreet will be fighting Mongo. Rocky is 6'8" and cuts to HW. Wont need to cut for Mongo not sure if he has ever seen 265lb.
Plus many more local guys like Keith Johnson from Auburn MMA
Call for tickets....
I like to apologize to the Moosin organization. These remarks should have never been posted. I am very disappointed in my help for posting something like that. I wish Moosin, Butterbean and the local fighters the best. I am very sorry.
Felix Martinez
No need to bash Felix. I personally have some great fighters I manage getting an opportunity to fight some of the best in the world.
Choi is a bronze Medalist in Greco Roman Wrestling and has fought in Pride, Sengoku, Pancrase and K-1 Heros. He KO'd Garry Goodridge and beat an undefeated Dave Herman. He is fighting a top notch HW in Scott Barret. Lil John "doo doo" Brown is fighting Kim another Pride Vet. If you are worried about Alabama guys not getting a chance to fight. Let me rest your heart brother.

Only around 6 fighters on card are not from Alabama..
Its not even my show. I have pro fighters from Alabama getting an opportunity to fight at home and make some money on a very big promotion from Korea. They do well who knows they may get an opportunity to fight in Korea...
So Check yourself... We have spoken before this is nothing against your card but I will promote my guys.
Russell Schenck - I have pro fighters from Alabama getting an opportunity to fight at home and make some money ...
That's rare. Most shows, just about every one in this state, only "promotes" ammy. It's a shame that in-state pros only get to fight here when someone from outside comes in. Speaks volumes about the state of MMA in Bama.
Contact Chris Taylor w/ BJJ Revolution-Montgomery (myspace or website). He has a pro 155 that I'm sure would love to fight in Alabama...one day.
Every name up there from alabama are pro fighters getting paid...
...
BTW, my post wasn't a dig at this show, and I don't want it to be taken that way!
I am talking about Alabama MMA in general. I have promoted 13 shows, and helped with at least a dozen more. I believe I know what I am talking about.
Tom,
I agree with you for the most part. As far as ammy to pro goes it all depends on the fighter. I have a guy who did not even have any ammy fights. He went straight to pro but he has a wrestling background and is a BJJ Brown Belt under Edson Deniz from ATT. The guy is a beast and undfeated at 3-0. The biggest problem in Alabama is no commission, but I think the market is pretty good. You seem to have built a good ammy show. I try to budget to have one or two pro bouts from quality teams in the area on our smaller show. Normally if you use a pro from a quality team they will bring their ammy's and help with marketing. Alabama has some very quality teams with quality pros and ammy's. Port City, Spartins, Auburn MMA and many more. Its all about budgeting.
Excited about the weekend of December 11. Sounds like two good shows in B-ham.
how many last/ retirement matches is Butterbean going to have? Serious question? Is this card different from the Coolio/ DMX fiasco?
Why is it a "fiasco"? It is certainly generating a lot of media interest in the show. What do you have against celebrity kickboxing? lol.
Hey, I'm an actor; you know there will be celebrities involved in any show I'm at...!
And, yes these are two different shows.
Butterbean's event is Friday nite; Thunder is Saturday nite.
Thunder has JEFF MONSON vs TRAVIS FULTON as the main event. The other show... doesn't!
Monson submits Fulton in 2 minutes or less, unless he wants it to last longer, I dont think I want to watch that. I would rather watch some good, young, up and coming fighters from alabama, no offense.
FCFBlazer - how many last/ retirement matches is Butterbean going to have? Serious question? Is this card different from the Coolio/ DMX fiasco?
That question can be asked to many fighters. They love having their retirement fight tour or if the money is right they will come out of retirement. I guess it is in most professional sports. If the money is right, Tyson would fight. It is one of take it with a grain of salt. After Randy the Natural was Ko'd by Chuck he said he would never fight in the cage again. OK yeah right....
No this event is not the DMX/Coolia event, but if you are a true mma fan then you should attend both and have a great weekend of mma action.
TomStedham - More promoters would use Alabama "pro" fighters, but if I'm selling 800 tickets with amateurs... why would I spend $1,500 on one fight? (2 fighters @ $500/500)
It's usually a business decision.
Some "pros" (in quotes because some really aren't) would fight for less just to be able to fight in Alabama.
Now, using information you've provided here...
You've promoted 13 shows (I'm not including the umpteen others you've contributed to). Again, according to posts here, you pack the venue at around 600-800 people (for this example we'll average 650). At $10 a head you've pulled $85K & you're telling me you can't afford one pro fight per show? I'm sure I'm wrong & out of place, but how many pro fights have you promoted Tom?
Believe me, I understand about the costs associated with promoting MMA events in Alabama. Still, no excuse for someone who has promoted double-digit MMA events to NOT have 1 pro fight per card. My .02 cents.
TomStedham - Fans want to see GOOD FIGHTS. They aren't interested in the status of the fighters.
You're giving way too much credit to the "fans" in Alabama. If 90% of a card ends in the first, they aren't good fights. They're mismatches.
TomStedham - I recommend something like 10-12 decent, hard-fought amateur fights before turning "pro." Anybody disagree?
Yes & no. If the 10-12 fights were against reputable gyms, then yes. If those fights were against rednecks in a bar, then no.
...
rnr7 - I would rather watch some good, young, up and coming fighters from alabama, no offense.
Or, you could be just honest and say it like this:
"Some pro and amateur fighters from my gym are fighting and I'm going to Bean's show to corner them. That's how I make my money!"
Because, as you well know, A LOT OF ALABAMA FIGHTERS are on the Thunder show... Why did you try to make it seem like there weren't?
Try honesty. It works for me!
No, I hear you. Like someone else said on this thread, it's about budgeting.
Everyone here knows me, I'm just a tad on the elitist side. No matter how much you justify promoting "ammy-only" shows, you're aware of what people think about "ammy-only" shows right?
Some gyms don't fight for ammy-only shows. They're typically the elite gyms in AL. You should consider that if you want to truly entertain the fans w/ quality fights.
Cause let's be honest, two fucking scrubs fighting isn't a quality fight. It's just a fight, no matter how "entertaining" it is. Keep in mind this is coming from someone who loves watching fights. I pull over during rush hour traffic to watch cats fight.
For the record though, how many pro fights have you promoted?
TomStedham -rnr7 - I would rather watch some good, young, up and coming fighters from alabama, no offense.

Are you talking to him or me?
To him! That's why I quoted him...<
"Because, as you well know, A LOT OF ALABAMA FIGHTERS are on the Thunder show... Why did you try to make it seem like there weren't?"
I thought that was directed at me for some reason. I think it's a shame that the majority of promoters in this state are still promoting ammy-only. If you're starting out, whatever...you gotta do what you gotta do to get rolling. But when you hit double-digit shows, I feel that it's time to switch things up a bit & give back to the gyms that gave so much to you.
I was at that show. It was a good fight (Thompson vs Riggs). It was kind of embarrassing though that someone kept getting put in a triangle over & over again, with the same set-up! Learn some D already, even if it's OJT.
I wouldn't have helped you a couple of times if I thought you were anything like what you just listed.
I just think, MY OPINION, that you have an obligation to start adding pros to your card now.
And that's a zero. I appreciate the civil discussion.
"...or benefit to my fans -- to have pro fights."
Tom, in all honesty, that is a ridiculous assertion. Your ammy fights are better than pro fights? C'mon.
