Ude Garami
1) Sensei Talks: "(Near the waist) hook your fingers onto their pinky bone, lift the opponent's arm to a 90 degree angleat the elbow, take his wrist and twist inward. Also, when the arm is near the top (head area) take his wrist at a 90 degree angle press it down and enter here (at the elbow) and twist outward. When the opponent escapes by stretching the arm out, the arm under the elbow presses down on their thumb and applies leverage below the elbow joint."
2) (still talking) "When the opponent thrusts at you with both hands, first grab their wrist (the sensei grabs the elbow?) and step in with your left foot. As you pull this hard, put your left hand under his arm and grab the right hand, (now sensei shifts to wrist) now shake it (his hand) loose. Thrust it up and back at the same time, put your right foot between their legs and flip them over."
3) Narrator: Let's look at the techniques in real situations, (2 parts).

9) Sensei Talks: "When the opponent tries to put their hand back to where it was (normal), press his wrist down with your left hand and move your right hand underneath the lower part of the elbow, grab your wrist and squeeze."
10) (still talking) : "If your opponent tries ude garami on you, first grab your own obi and pull it to yourself. Then add your right hand and grasp your own wrist. Make the opponent's hands lock in a reverse way."
11) (still talking): "If the opponent tries ude garami on you, pull your leg upp, raise your hips, then press your stomach with your left hand, (sensei uses his right hand though?). Turn your position" (applies juji garami).

Newaza Proverb
-Don't pull, but twist your wrist.
-Strangle beneath your chest
-Don't put your hand farther out than your obi.
-newaza has 3 techniques: Osaekomi waza, shime waza and kansetsu waza for ippon.
Narrator: Newaza comes into effect as katame waza when these three waza : Osae komi, shime and kansetsu come together as a trinity, these three waza are "fusoku furi" if they interact and adjust to each other victory can easily be obtained.

Kosen Judo:
Essence of Newaza

Osae Komi Waza
Introduction: This is (an aspect of) judo that was built upon by athlete judoka who attended high school or specialty school judo shiai. This (aspect of) judo was several years before the war (W.W. II) and athletes who attended judo takai based it on Japanese ancient techniques with blood sweat and tears and built upon those results. This is where the essence of newaza lies.
Kesa Gatame
(same trinity proverb as earlier). (slow motion film) There is a proverb for osae komi: start wit hkesa ends with kesa." Lets introduce the basic waza for osae komi:
1) This is the kamarite (decsions) of kesa gatame. Pull opponent's arm well (far) enough, trap their arm, make their back touch flat on the ground- don't let him hanmi or turn on his side. In order to do this lock the right arm squeeze his midsleeve (naka sobe) and grasp it as hukuro dori (bail or bag taking- locking at the chest). In order to avoid opponent pulling out of the right arm do not let them bend their elbow. Hook your left arm around around opponent's right arm, bend both knees slightly and always keep your right knee touching the opponent's right shoulder.
2) Let's introduce a variation of kesa gatame- ude garami ushiro kesa gatame.
3) Makura kesa gatame. Hol the opponent's kneck and move his head to your thigh (like a pillow).
4) Kuzure kesa gatame- osae komi should be adjusted according to your body and your opponent's movement (2 parts).
5) How to enter, This is an example of how to enter and how to actually do kesa gatame.
6) Let's introduce how to escape from an imperfect kesa gatame. Hook your leg, raise opponent's body and escape (dpoes sankaku and ude garame).
7) Put your opponent on your belly and turn over. Hug them, turn them over as you pull them to your belly. (2 parts-1 slow motion.).
8) Thrust your chest and rise (2 parts).
9) Kesa gatame is easy to move into other technique. It's important to expect what the opponent does and to change from one waza to another.
10) From kesa gatame to kuzure kami shiho gatame.
11) Grab their arm and neck then choke, move to kata gatame.
Kami Shiho Gatame
1) Scissor their head with both legs, knees covering over the opponent. Grab the obi at the sides and squeeze their upper arms. Twist your arms and close them together. This is a basic technique of osae komi.
Press your cheek onto the opponent's sternum. Press his chest with your chest, pull your elbows together by squeezing your arms together. Pressing with your chest you control your opponent's knees- avoid back and forth, up and down movement, adjust your leg position according to your opponent's movement. When you opponent is big, first grab the sides of the obi and pull the hands to the center, control both knees- open your legs widely; raise your hips, put your weight on the opponent's stomach. Kami shiho gatame is advantageous for small people against big people.
2) Let's introduce how to escape from kami shiho gatame. With both hands push on the opponent's chest and make a hole, put your stomach down.
3) Thrust the opponent's body down and make a hole, hook your leg and escape like an "ebi (shrimp). (2 parts, one slow motion to juji).
4) Let's introduce some variations from kami shiho gatame, (do ude garami and press).
5) Move to Juji Gyamu (2 parts).
6) Your opponent tries to escape with his stomach down. To avoid this grab his front collar with your left hand and move underneath them. Work on mae jime (2 parts-1slow motion).

Kata Gatame
1) Your right knee presses opponent's right side. Stretch down opponent's right arm so that the arm covers their face. With your right arm, hold the opponent's upper arm and neck together. Reach around the back of the opponent's neck and grasp your left hand, close your elbows tight. Stretch your left leg and don't let your left knee touch the floor. When you use the right side of your neck to lock the opponent's arm, twist your neck upwards (that is stronger). Stretch (straighten) out your back. kata gatame has few disadvantages and is hard to counter after locking it in.
2) Let's introduce how to work kata gatame. Twist your leg into the opponent's opposite side, move your body over the opponent's body (not onto) and work to kata gatame.
3) Kata gatame from the bottom. Take opponent's neck and arm, kick (thrust) out the opponent's knee, flip them over and work to kata gatame. Put your shoulder low enough so that you and your opponent's shoulders become parallel. (2 parts)
4) How to escape from kata gatame. The moist effective way is to loosen the shoudler and arm and turn over (2 parts).
Kuzure Kame Shiho Gatame
1) Kuzure kame shiho gatame is the most common technique among osae komi waza (3 parts).
2) When the head and shoulder is fixed (locked) the movement of your legs becomes limited. To work to kuzure kame shiho gatame, lock the opponent's head and shoulders with both arms, grasp the obi at the back, crossing your arms. Sensei Talks: "First you go down then you go up. Close your elbows tight so that the opponent cannot move his head. Don't put too much weight on the opponent's chest".
3) Narrator: There is another case of kuzure kame shiho gatame, you take the back of the collar with one hand. Sensei Talks: "Lock opponent's right shoulder and squeeze (close) your arms".
4) Narrator: Let's introduce transitions from kuzure kame shiho gatame when the opponent tries to escape by face down (turning) change to mae jime. Sensei talks: "The point here is to put this (arm) here (across neck)- the base of the thumb is choking the artery and the opponent faints (passes out)".
5) Narrator: Switch your arms and change to tate shiho gatame. Sensei talks: "Tate shiho gatame looks like this; use kansetsu; do not let them escape, hold their arm- do like this (hooking) and work to tate shiho gatame. Use this kansetsu and press them down".
6) Still talking: "When you are working on kuzure tate shiho and your opponent tries to escape- if you can't work on tate shiho anymore, change your position then continue on to kuzure tate shiho and you can keep going for 15 seconds more when the opponent is trying to make an escape".
7) Narrator: This is one example of the variations of kuzure kame shiho gatame. (2 parts).
8) Let's introduce how to escape. This is called "Teppo gaeshi", you use the movement of pulling your legs (you pull out your legs and use the momentum to escape) (2 parts).
9) Thrust your opponent's stomach up and become (use) ebi, hook your legs and escape. (2 parts- one in slow motion).
10) Escape by scissoring opponent's leg, depending on the opponent's movement, you can get on (top) of them. The movement to scissor their leg is important.

Yoko Shiho Gatame
1) Yoko shiho gatame has a deep relationship with kuzure kame shiho gatame. Depending on the opponent's movement they often interchange (with one another). If the opponent pulls, put your leg in and grasp the collar at the rear tightly and work to yoko shiho gatame.
2) Pull your leg out and work to yoko shiho gatame.
3) Pull your knee up to opponent's stomach. Kick (thrust) the opponent's leg as it's base (hip joint) and pul your leg.
4) Let's introduce how to escape: Unlock the shoulder, press it down and move to sankaku (3 parts-1 slow motion)
5) Undo the hand and twist face down to escape.
Tate Shiho Gatame
1) with your rigth hand lock the opponent's left hand well, with your left arm grab opponent's obi at the rear and do tate shiho gatame.
2) Stretch his right (elbow) joint, stretch out the opponent's body and lock them.
3a) Flip them over with your right hand and hold the opponent's neck, pull the knee close to you and do tate shiho gatame.
3b) Your heels should touch the opponent's sides.
4) Let's introduce how to escape: move your legs up and down and escape.
5) Move your legs from side to side, rise with the opponent's body on your chest and use the momentum- flip them over and escape.
6a) Take the opponent's ankle and scissor; get behind their back.
6b) Slow motion- tate shiho gatame is a good technique for small people to lock bigger people. Also, even if the opponent escapes you will not be in a critical situation (it's a safe technique).
7) Let's introduce transitions from tate shiho gatame. Change the grasp to the opponent's neck and arm, work to kata gatame (2 parts-1 slow motion).
8a) From Tate shiho gatame to sankaku jime; By placing yourself under the opponent (2 parts, 1 slow motion.)
8b) The most important things in osae komi are: flipping your wrist, closing your arms and locking the opponent's shoulders. Newaza must be acquired by training and studying a method that fits you.

Newaza proverbs:
-Use your legs- your legs are stronger than the arms.
-When you are under the opponent your head must not touch the tatame (ground).
-When you are on top of the opponent take the shoulders.
-When you grab the opponent use hukuro dori (bail-bag taking).
