Thats for sure a problem with your wireless. It probably has to do with your upload speed too. Many providers dont have a high upload speed and you need to upload information to servers/etc to get your web page. Try disabling or throttling your wifi after you get it connected.
Fuck u guys are getting way too technical.. Power cycle the router and then goto network settings, forget the network, resign in and put the password in again, it should be fine.
Bisping'sToiletCleaner -Saying I need permission from SYSTEM to make changes to log files
Click my computer, search for "system32" and wait for it to load the files. Then hold ctrl key and the a key to select them all. Hit the delete button and wait. If any errors come up then you know you've found the cause of the wireless problem. When its done deleting Windows will repopulate the files and that should restore your drive files for your wireless.
Hope this helps.

peakes - System restore is not the first thing to try. Probably it will work but there can be collateral damage. If you use system restore, won't it eventually run into the same problems eventually

peakes - The point is they might be screwed up so you want to remove fully and replace.I uninstalled the drivers, do I get the new ones from the hp website? I have a pavilion
I'm not near a w8 machine to remind myself how to remove config for a wireless network sorry.

Put it in a bag of rice.
Seriously, did u power cycle the router? It's prob not a driver issue if it worked yesterday and not today without changing anything.. .

I have no real networking background, but I used to program Control4 automation and probably set up a few hundred access points in my time... And I have an HP laptop myself... Never usually have to mess with the drivers etc.. It's usually the shitty router that gives me issues... If u don't have alot of special settings, I'd just factory reset the router if power cycling doesn't work...
Power cycle is not a bad idea but a router problem would not cause a red x, it would be a yellow ! or no connection.
peakes - Power cycle is not a bad idea but a router problem would not cause a red x, it would be a yellow ! or no connection.Red x? Oops, Didn't read that... Is it enabled under network settings? Or the silly button on the actual keyboard?

He can see the wireless network but it might not be a live view so I reckon it is probably a software problem.
Ok peakes knows what he's talking about, I'll shut my trap! Lol...
Last thing to check... Does your phone connect to the network with no problems?
JROTT - Ok peakes knows what he's talking about, I'll shut my trap! Lol...My phone connects fine. I just tried connecting on another laptop and that wouldn't connect either

What do you mean by poached?
Jored1990 - What do you mean by poached? Most newer routers actually pump out 2 different wifi signals, most laptops use the old one while most new phones use the newer one.. Just a guess.. Do you see 2 networks from your phone? Like YOURWIFI and YOURWIFI-5g ? What brand of router?

2 laptops not working makes me think router... U can get a red X if the password was changed, etc..
