The only time Guida got Danzig fully to the ground, he threw a lot of punches and almost took the back.
The rest of the fight was trying to get Danzig down. No "laying" at all, since they weren't actually on the ground for more than a couple seconds after each slam.

Not maintaining position while throwing knees and punches would give Mac an obvious advantage for submissions.
Wrestling = Better for Clay. Submissions = Better for Mac.
The fight may have been boring but Clay fought a smart fight. Passing the guard and not controlling that top position would have cost him the fight.

It's called anti-grappling, I admit it's not very exciting, but it's up to Danzig to escape Guida's control. Danzig could have tried to pull guard, and tried for submissions, instead of trying to stand up every time.
