Leaked news about EA MMA

Taken from EA Forums...

"so a while back i searched EA MMA 10 in google looking for some actual information on the game and found this, it is a user by the name of SpiralOut on the CagePotato forum.

----Let me start by saying that I worked for EA Tiburon for a while, but am currently completely unaffiliated with the studio or EA in general.

I got to play the EA MMA game very briefly, in a VERY early phase of development, and this is what I'm willing to say about it.

First of all, signed fighters, since that seems to be a big topic of discussion:

Randy Couture is in. Tim Sylvia is in. Nick Diaz is in. The Shamrocks are in. I'm almost positive that Fedor is also in, but my memory may be failing me, so don't quote me on that. There are more, but I can't remember who off the top of my head.

The game is based on the FNR4 engine, and the art goals I've seen are absolutely beautiful. Better looking than UFC Undisputed, even better than Fight Night.

Gameplay, love it or hate it, will be largely analog-stick based, not dissimilar to Fight Night. This makes the game slightly less intuitive to newcomers, but will also make it far more technical and less button-mashy. Needless to say, the analog stick motions for striking opens up a much wider range of technical opportunities than the simplistic "high, low, special" system in Undisputed.

Submissions are fantastic. The submission system in the EA game (even in the pre-alpha build I tested) works much better than in the UFC game, and is not dissimilar to the real thing. A skilled fighter can score a submission early on, regardless of the stamina meter, given the right positioning, decent stats and fast reactions on the controller. Additionally, the animations for submissions is beautiful. You probably noticed if you played the UFC game that when you attempt a submission, there are two or three "transition" stages, each of which have a simple "idle" animation that repeats until the next transition is made. All I'm willing to say is that the EA game will look far more fluid, more organic and less robotic than the THQ game in this regard.

I don't want to talk a whole lot about the career mode, except that it's based on several different fictional promotions with which you'll be able to sign fights and move up the ladder.

Personally, I think for hardcore MMA fans, the gameplay is going to be a lot more important than the names and likenesses of the fighters you can use. And with Photo Game Face + a create-a-fighter system that's much more extensive than in the THQ game, this becomes even less of an issue, as most people will want to go through the career mode and fight online as themselves rather than as a licensed fighter. I think the gameplay superiority of the EA title will outweigh the UFC roster, provide for higher or at least very competitive sales and cause Zuffa to sign a contract with EA when their THQ contract is up.------

I agree about this game being for the hardcore MMA fan that wants realism rather than just the "UFC" name.

Hopefully they build a good list of fighters which sounds like they are working on because the gameplay is guaranteed to be awesome.

Possible roster..

Looks like EA Sports are going up against THQ’s UFC Undisputed 2009.

Now this game probably won’t feature any UFC fighter because THQ have an exclusive contract with the UFC.

Wikipedia claims these fighters are in the game

Randy Couture[5]
Tim Sylvia[5]
Fedor Emelianenko [6]
Gegard Mousasi[6]
Benji Radach[7]
Bobby Lashley[5]

Rumored: Nick Diaz, Muhammed Lawal, Jason Miller and Jake Shields

UFC president Dana White has declared himself “at war” with EA over the development of the game and has threatened to blacklist from the UFC any fighter who signs on to the project, with the exception of Randy Couture due to pre-existing contractual arrangements between Couture and UFC. White accused EA of acting in bad faith in allegedly previously refusing to consider a UFC branded MMA game due to not considering MMA “a real sport” and are motivated now purely by the recent commercial success of the THQ published UFC 2009 Undisputed, stating “EA doesn’t give a [expletive] about mixed martial arts. They made that very clear.”

inf0 - When you think about that roster.. damn it's impressive the amount of talent that ISN'T in the UFC... compared to the list of TUF'ers...  =)

Yeah, its pretty amazing. There's a lot of one or two guys in an organization that are top notch but without much depth or top guys to fight against. Most recently Gegard Mousasi... who else is left for him to fight?? Not much

EA is going to blow the UFC game out of the water like they did to the Tony Hawk franchise.

^^ hope so.. im so excited for it i cant wait!!!! ah!!!

Like i said previously,it would be awesome if they make all the fighters from like ufc 1-10. that would be so awesome.

This game is definitely going to cater towards the hardcore MMA fans and hopefully expand the MMA market.UFC is actually doing MMA a favor by showing there is more than just the UFC.

this will be purchased

I'm really lookin forward to buying this game, I never bought Undisputed because I played the demo and it looked like crap, very unrealistic. EA makes good fighting games like FN.

Anyone else interested in UFC legends such as:

Ken Shamrock
Royce Grace
Teila Tuli
Patrick Smith
Jason Delucia
Harold Howard
Keith Hackney
Kimo Leopoldo
Dan Severn
Guy Mezger
Tank Abbott
Oleg Taktarov
Marco Ruas
Gary Goodridge

Ryan MacLeod - I have no doubt in my mind that EA will make a superior game to THQ, but if EA and Zuffa really want this genre to blow up into a massive success they need each other. UFC will do just fine without EA and EA might even make a bit of money without Zuffa, but together they could create a game that will dominate the market.

For sure. But I think the consumer will benefit if they stay separate.

Competition and we benefit.

It will force THQ to make a better game and it will force EA to make a better game.

Plus if you only had a UFC mma game with nothing else, a lot of these other fighters would be untapped.

So in the end, I came to the conclusion that this is the best thing that could happen for us..

yeah but we wouldnt have all the other fighters dumb ass.

A game with Fedor, Sakuraba, Mousasi, Aoki, Gomi, Hansen & Royce Gracie would be very cool indeed.

Sakuraba and Gomi! Sign me up for the interested line

fuck, if sakuraba is in it ill shit

I know I'm probably in the minority, but the names they sign are not nearly important to me as how the game plays.

is it me or does this sound like viral marketing?

if you walked up to diaz 5 years ago when he was tapping macaco with a kneebar and told you he was going to be in a video game, he would have punched square in the face or told you to fuck off.

big fan of the ufc game but im getting this one too for shizzzzzzle

ttt

Listen to me EA

WE NEED GENKI SUDO !!!
