Leo Viera's Stall Game

It's interesting, I've never really seen anyone else do this but anyone notice that when Leozihno is up on points and the match is in it's last minute or so, he gets a jerky and stutter steps alot. I guess it's for one = to scare off the opponent and make em think he's about to attack and two= to stall in a way that doesn't get him in trouble with the ref's. To me though it's definitely stalling because you can see him not trying to pass guard like he would earlier in the match. I've seen it mostly in his ADCC appearances, anyone else notice this?

I also have seen Jacare do this which makes sense since Jacare trained with Leo for quite a while.

When I think of someone stalling the last thing that comes to mind is Leo Viera, I havent seen the video of him vs eddie bravo for awhile, but if I remeber he had eddie destroyed on points and was still looking for the submission.

Leo does a little of it at the end of the Eddie Bravo match too. It's not stalling like you normally think about when stalling comes to mind but the big thing is that he isn't pressing the action anymore at the end.

people do get tired.

People do like to win.

I don't mind active stalling - it's up to the other guy to press the action, take advantage of it or well... lose.

Yeah I don't mind Leo and Jacare's strategy at all. If I've got more matches in the end of the day and I'm up on points with only a minute left, it's their fault for letting it get to the last minute behind. If they attack I'll be just as aggressive but a lot of these competitors don't tend to attack when these two do this stutter stepping stuff. I like it, it's just not a strategy brought up much that I thought I'd point out. I want to point out it's a very different strategy then the normal, get 2 points and kill the clock within the first moments of the match. Now that's being a sucka and I can't stand that crap.

I wish I could wrestle and stall like Leo or Jacare!!

fine line...video helps...

If you're in a tournament situation, it makes sense to conserve energy for the fights ahead.

For Christ's sake, Leo is not the only guy to do this. It's called intellegence. Since he's just laying there or basically standing there, the opponent needs to step it up and escape or take him down. One minute of stalling is not five or ten or w/e the time limit is.

I like how Sayon talks like he wouldn't do the same thing. If you were up say 6-2 w/ 53 seconds to go and you had side control, you know you'd lay there and just do enough not to get docked.

Damn, if that's stalling, I dont know what pressing the action is. I wish I could be as aggressive as his stalling. LOL

Another great thread on TUF.

" Damn, if that's stalling, I dont know what pressing the action is. I wish I could be as aggressive as his stalling. LOL"

No doubt. Fak..if my normal was Leo's stalling, I'd be happy with performances.

Not Leo nor Jacare alone, Marcio Feitosa does this as well.

Feitosa is the master points player.

Squirr3lMachine - So you like how I talk like I wouldn't do the same? I like how your a moron who puts his foot in his mouth before he reads the whole thread. I said that I'm not knocking it and that it's a smart thing to do right at the end of the match especially if you have matches later on in the day. I was never knocking the strategy and I knew some douche bag would come on here and act like you. I was bringing it up because it's something that I've never seen brought up before, but you can go back to talking about how to do an armbar from the mount and whether Tank could beat Sakuraba crap and stay out of my thread.

Let me put it like this. There's three types of stalling which I can point out. One (faggots way) to grab point early on and hunker down until time runs out. Two: Leo's active stalling right at the end. Your still aggressive but your not initiating the grapple anymore, and leaving it up to the opponent. Maybe if Roger had done this in the finals of this years Mundials he would have beaten Xande. (Stoked that Xande won BTW) 3rd: Out of bounds or fake injury stalling. Another gay version of the first on. When someone hears stalling it always has a bad connotaion with it but the second one seems to be just good strategy without just winning within the rules cheaply.

sayonaisse is correct but the first way of stalling is NOT the faggot way. I call it the Jeff Monson way. It was so disappointing (not to mention BORING) to watch him win at the last Abu Dhabi doing just that.
