I don't know if this has been discussed, but what a load of bull. I have never seen them stop a fight for one punch to the back of the head and an immediate loss of a point. Then have them stand up again.
Now I'm not saying that the fight would have ended differently, but come on. The inconsistency just pisses me off. In an earlier fight (I'd have to go back and check who) one fighter elbowed the back of his opponents head and nothing happened.
I agree, that loss of a point really cost Brock who lost a close, might I add controversial decision. Also Brock wasn't also to easily take Mir down again for the rest of the fight!
we all freaked out when it happened, thinking that he stopped the fight early, only to see hime take the point....we all came to the conclusion that mazzagatti initially was looking to stop the fight in favor of brock and in the process realized it was to quick and covered it up with the point....then again this was eight of s drunks watching and coming to this conclusion.....but it sounded good at the time
I agree now that I rewatched it with this in mind. I hadn't even thought about that until I read this. When you see Mir go limp he is running in. Then Mir pops up and is like what the hail? Then he pulls the "back of the head punch." It was some VERY VERY strange reffing.
Seemed to me Mazagatti issued multiple warnings for strikes to the back of the head and saw that Lesnar made no effort to ease up. Mazagatti appeared to take Lesnar's actions as willful non-compliance so he stopped the fight and took away a point. Good reffing in my opinion.
I also thought the ref jumped in for a TKO Lenar victory. I thought I just won money and instead he was deducting a point and making them restart standing after Lensar had pretty good position. BS
honestly Brock was so spaztic in there I dont think he intentonally hit Mir anywhere...he was just flailing away....and happened to land a cpl ob the back of the head.....it seemed to happen really fast...Mazgatti has Ninja fast eyes..bc I thought he was stopping fight for TKO win... i didnt see where they wre landin till the Mickeys replay...
The 1st hit was innocent IMO. The 2nd hit sent Mir's head slamming down... DEFINITELY could have done some damage, and its Mazzagatti's job to make sure he's ok. And from his viewpoint, I would think he was worried about MORE hits to the back of the head.
What people fail to realize is you cant give a "warning" when the guy is potentially hurting his opponent... You HAVE to stop it. Look what happened with Renzo. They WARNED Frank, he kept doing it and Renzo was hurt badly.
