Let's Talk Boba Fett. Is he the most overrated character in Star Wars?

Let’s start with the OG version of Boba Fett.
He looked cool, had a cool mysterious voice (before they overdubbed the original actor’s voice with Temuera Morrison’s in the special edition versions) and is part of one of the shortest, but coolest scenes in Empire when he made his big screen debut: (not counting the wonder that is the Holiday special)

I was fascinated by this quick scene as a kid. Who the hell are all these guys? What’s their deal? Why is that one guy wrapped up like a Mummy? I had the toy of every one of these characters and knew their names based off the cardbacks, but there was no background. THis was before the days of the EU/Legends contintuity or the internet, or any of that. The mystery of it made you use your imagination and that was way cooler. Fans these days need every minute thing explained to them or they bitch.
But I digress.

Let’s talk about Boba Fett. He’s obviously smarter than the Mummy-Man (Dengar) and the combination of weird droids/Aliens.

But what did he do, really?

He followed the Millennium Falcon and tattle-taled to the Empire. It was Vader and the Empire that captured Han and Leia and the Falcon after he did his job as a Space Hall Monitor. He was just there to look cool and talk menacingly.

Fast forward to him hanging out as one of Jabba’s groupies. He does nothing to prevent Boushh (Leia in disguise) from whipping out a thermal detonator and making everyone spill their Bantha-Juice. Obviously couldn’t tell that Jabba’s palace had been infiltrated by Lando.
Then during the Sarlacc battle, he lasts about 2 seconds against Luke before getting knocked on his ass, and then lets a blind Han Solo launch him into a hole. All show no go.

This guy is supposed to be a feared Bounty Hunter? I think he just had a good Space-PR team.
He’s almost comic relief.

It honestly wasn’t until the Janky Legends/EU timeline (where everyone always runs into the same OG characters, or their daughters, etc etc…way too much coincidence going on there) tried to make him an actual badass instead of a paper tiger that he seemed to get more of the reputation fans put on him.

“Who does your taxes?”

Really strange because he was definitely my favorite as a kid, an I couldn’t tell you exactly why.

It was before the internet, and he was most people’s favorite. Had barely any screen time, and only 2 speaking parts…

In hindsight I think because he was the only character that wasn’t purely good or evil. He was just in it for he money.

Don’t get me started on Jango

He needed a 10 year old in a space ship to save him from Obi-Wan, and lasted about 15 seconds against Mace Windu.

I think also, because his toy was initially a mail in, so it was harder to come by…which made kids want it more for clout. (and because he looked cool)

Yes and the Boba Fett show didnt do him any favors.

I mean, he did more bad ass things in the Boba Fett show than he did in the OG trilogy

i never understood the boba fett hype at all
i could be completely wrong about it all, but i just never got it

this was a few years before I was born, so I think this is probably the main source of his hype

Also the way Vader told him “NO disintegrations…” gave Boba some street cred. Like Vader had used him in the past and Boba was brutal.

He has a cool helmet. That’s it really.

Couldn’t he ever afford to have the dent fixed?

The prequels suggest that he’s wearing Jango’s armor (after taking the head out of the helmet and washing it i guess) and repainted it…but it’s in a much worse state of repair than when Jango wore it, which i guess tells us Boba has not been as successful a Bounty Hunter.
Plus in Empire, it looks like he’s wearing cargo pants with an armored Codpiece.

I always thought he was cool, but my understanding before the prequels was that he was just a remnant of The Clone Wars who became a bounty hunter. I believed his armor was just the standard clone trooper armor, specially equipped to combat Jedi. Had no idea about Mandolorians and all that stuff. In that way, I never saw him as anyone particular special, just a cool background character who bit the dust in ROTJ. Actually, it still bothers me that they brought him back. My new favorite character is Takeel.

He’s actually the basis for one of the more rare and valuable original star wars figures

I thought as a kid that he and Vader were old friends who were both nearly killed in the battle with Obi Wan and both wore the same sort of armor and life support because they were noth burned up. That’s why Vader chooses him and shows him respect compared to the other bounty hunters. Then at 8, I saw RotJ in the theater and was immediately turned off when he ‘died’. And they have continually made him more lame every time they do anything with him.

I never liked his “origin” story from the prequels either.

Always thought it was extremely lame

Boba Fett and his cock gobbling followers are a bunch of faggots. Jar Jar Binks was more important.

Ya, I fuckin said it. Jar Jar fuckin Binks.

I dont understand how this is being questioned. It’s Boba Fett, the most feared bounty hunter ever known. He isnt a slave to the code of Mandalore, he survived the Sarlacc and he is growing wise in his aging years. He is the greatest character in the star wars universe.
I enjoyed the Book of Boba Fett because for years having movies about every other character like that known smuggler Han Solo, it was time to pay respect to the Fett!
