Lets talk fighter sponsorships

Do any clothing companies out there pay their fighters salaries? Or does
everyone get paid per fight? What would be a decent salary for an "A"
level fighter? Do you think fighters would feel more appreciated with a
monthly check that they could count on?

Also, why is MMA the only sport that athletes have more than one
clothing company paying them for the same fight? (like putting Warrior
Wear on your Tapout shorts) That would never fly in another sport.

How many other professional sports have similar forms for sponsorship? I think MMA is fairly unique in this regard.

Im comparing MMA to action sports. You have 1 shoe sponsor, 1 clothing,
1 sunglass, 1 energy drink and so on.

What would a fighter get for hosting a TMZ style show?

I know what you mean OC. I used to be heavy into BMX and the kids only got sponsored by one company in a certain market. You never see Red Bull and Monster sponsoring a kid. Not sure what they get paid, but I am sure that for "A" level guys it has to be pretty good.

I worked at a car dealership in Vegas and we gave a guy a leased car for a year for free.

his salary

ocbadapple, MMA is not unique in this format. Look at a NASCAR driver's suit or his car for that matter. It looks like a frggin mosaic of ad spots.

MMA is young, as are most clothing companies involved. It works because
everybody is on the come up.

I think companies should start paying salaries just like most other "Xtreme" sports. I know pro surfers and skaters that get paid monthly + bonus and they arent even the guys at the top. One surfer/model/crackhead/informant that surfed creek growing up used to get decent checks and the guy is a complete tool! Erik knows who Im talking about!

Merril, NASCAR drivers have a single sponsor for each product. They are
never sponsored by 2 companies that make the same product. (coke and
pepsi for example).

Gorilla, what kind of car was it? U work at United Nissan?

Okay, I see what you're saying.

I wanna hear opinions on how much fighters should get paid for a salary

What up Apple !!

I think if it's a local show , what like $500 per sponsor.
If it's going to be televised or PPV then a lot more due to exposure. @least $1000 per , the more the exposure ( like the UFC for example) the more $dough$ ... IMO !!!

One question you may want to think about is what you are willing to do for the sponsor compnay. Publicity like interviews, picture sessions etc. Half the time you can get your agent to do all the work for that, the other half of the time you can ask me for help.

Im talking about a monthly salary, not how much per fight

Well the salary would be dependent on the output of the fighter. If he is doing fights a year versus 6 then it would be less of a salary.

Ideally I would pay a fighter 5k per month (60k a yr aint bad to sponsor someone) that lived up to the following:

A monthly event related to my sponsorship.

A radio, video or tv spot 4x a yr.

Wearing my sponsorship prominently during fights

A short article or interview for my newsletter monthly.

3-4 fights yr.

OC. What would the fighters responsibility be in marketing the product? If its just product placement on clothing during a fight, a salary should be very little. If there are personal appearence or company functions to attend, then maybe a couple thousand per month depending on what the time commitment is. For example if a fighter has to do a bunch of autograph sesh at trade shows and such then thats worth something. A logo on a shirt that may or may not be seen on a ppv, not so much.

Do you think fighters would feel more appreciated with a monthly check that they could count on?

YES !

I'd start fighting for that kind of money!

5k is for a decent name-
