But even early snippets of the low-budget erotic thriller The Canyons - which showed Lindsay in various states of undress - did not seem to be the material of a surefire box office hit.
Now, the film that was recently savaged by critics has made a shocking $30,100, making it Lindsay's biggest flop to date in terms of opening weekend figures.

In the movie - which cost a reported $250,00 to make - Lindsay plays Tara an actress who is involved with a young movie producer - played by real life porn star James Deen.
The disappointing box office result is a far cry from what Lindsay was used to in her heyday.
Her smash hit comedy Mean Girls made an impressive $86million in 2004, while even the lackluster Herbie: Fully Loaded made $64million in 2005.

Before The Canyons, Lindsay's lowest grossing film was the ill-advised Chapter 27, starring Jared Leto as Mark Chapman, who assassinated John Lennon.
The biopic made just $56,215 in 2008.
Despite the failure of her latest film, it has been revealed that the star was recently approached by actor Ben Affleck about starring in his next project.

Last month, the actress posted a message on Twitter after Hollywood magazine Variety favorably compared her performance in The Canyons to screen legend Marlon Brando.
'Wow...humbled and feeling so much gratitude,' Lohan tweeted along with a link to the review and the hashtag #teamlohan.
It seemed to be a positive progression from the low reviews she got for her 2012 cable movie Liz & Dick, in which she took on the role of Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor.
Schrader, 67, has directed 17 feature films, including the critically acclaimed 1980 movie American Gigolo starring Richard Gere.

Lindsay, who has been in and out of rehab several times, has now been out and about pictured looking happier and healthier than ever.
As well as an interview, Lindsay has a deal lined up with Oprah Winfrey's OWN network for an eight-part documentary series about her life as she tries to remain sober.
The reality TV show will air in 2014 and will be helmed by documentarian Amy Rice, who directed the 2009 documentary 'By the People: The Election of Barack Obama.'
