The Irishman sustained the gruesome injury in his TKO loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.
Towards the end of the first round, McGregor stepped backwards only for his lower leg to buckle underneath him, effectively ending the fight.
It was an anticlimactic conclusion to a fight that didn’t live up to its trash-talking hype.
McGregor underwent successful surgery to repair fractures to the tibia and fibula in his left leg and seemed determine to fight Poirier soon.
“Everything went to plan,” McGregor said from his hospital bed after the operation.
“Everything went perfect. I’m feeling tremendous. We’ve got six weeks on a crutch now, and then we begin to build back.
“It was a hell of a first round. It would have been nice to get back into that second round. It is what it is. That’s the nature of the business. A clean break of the tibia, and it was not to be.
“Dustin, you can celebrate that illegitimate win all you want, but you’d done nothing in there. That second round would have shown all.”

But White confirmed McGregor will be out of action for at least a year so he can recover from his injury.
“It’s going to take a year for him to recover from this one before he can come back,” White said in an interview with Fox News.
“He’s had ankle issues for the last couple of years,” he said.
“He had asked if he could tape his ankles coming into this fight and he got clearance to do it from the Nevada State Athletic Commission and then he opted not to tape them, I don’t know why. He has chronic arthritis in his ankles.”
“It’s going to take him a year to recover from this one before he can come back, so I don’t know,” White added.
“The fight game is a tough game and the kid has cemented a massive legacy for himself and made a lot of money. We’ll see how the rest of his career plays out.”
The devastating news comes days after McGregor revealed he had been suffering from multiple stress fractures in his leg before the fight with Poirier.
“I was injured going into the fight,” McGregor said.
