Anderson's next opponent has a HUGE nose and floppy shoe advantage over him... sure to be a thriller.

perhaps it was the current lowest-ever tuf ratings that made dana do this

dunno but one more season of TUF is not going to matter in the long term.

At the least it's a way to revive the TUF ratings. The fight itself makes no sense, it's just now Chael's some TV superstar so they want him to play his character, etc...

actually this could be the best thing for Chael's career ever

Yea, this fight really makes no sense. Sonnen should be funny at least.

TimeToCrush - Stop being so hard on the guy. This is just one step closer to making the sport of UFC bigger than the NFL.

Time will make mma bigger ... I would argue JBJ v Silva, and similar great fights, could do more for mma than TUF at this point.

Exactly

Brock Lesnar was and still is the biggest guaranteed PPV draw in the UFC.

Putting him on TUF, in a better time slot STILL did not deliver ratings.

Only Kimbo Slice has helped TUF get ratings.

The show has been dead since TUF 8 and all the Junie/semen sushi/hijinks.

No quality fighters have come from the show and it's forcing fighters to act like they have WWE beef to prop up a coach's angle.

Dana could put Sonnen v Jones on TUF hosted by Ronda Rousey and featuring guest coaches Kurt Sutter and Charlie Hunnam and it will not matter.

TUF is D. O. A. Phone Post

It's a fight that maybe some hardcore fans are not in favor of. But it will capture the imagination of most I think. I certainly didn't expect Silva v JBJ this quick. Just at some point before AS retires. At least I think that's what Dana was getting at. Anyway I think the casual fans will get into this season and we might see a big increase in ratings. If not.... Then NOTHING can save TUF. Phone Post

Odd that they jumped on this so quick. I would have thought they would put some more effort into making the silva/jones fight before resorting to this.

Doing this virtually guarantees Anderson's next opponent won't be jones - unless we're in store for another very extended layoff from silva. Phone Post

How about stating opinions without name calling ? He is a prominent forum member and deserves a certain level of respect. Say what you want. Just save the HS name calling. Thanks.

Exactly. If the UFC is doing this for TUF ratings, I believe they're going to be horribly disappointed.

TUF is just way past relevance, no one watches anymore. And if they wouldn't watch Brock they're not going to watch Chael.

I think the UFC is doing this for business reasons. But I think they're extremely wrong, and this will hurt business rather than help it.

For one Jones' title defense is now delayed. For another, I don't think Chael will help TUF ratings at all. And finally I don't think Jones vs. Chael will deliver PPV numbers better than any other Jones fight - everyone knows this is a joke of a mismatch, so why would people pay for it?

It's not even like Anderson/Bonnar because with Anderson you always have the chance of seeing something spectacular, but Jones is going to wreck Chael in straightforward fashion.

Just remember these initial thoughts of this matchup before the Countdowns and the PR and media build Sonnen up in our heads to be a huge threat against Jones. The UFC is real good at selling fights to us. Phone Post

dfw is such a great promoter that I would bet my life Charlie the clown could ko AS.

He is very good at what he does.

I think he's desperate to have a good TUF showing within the fox family. It was the UFC's flagship show that triggered their huge growth way back when, they've even made it an international phenomenon to attempt to cultivate mma interest in other countries, so it looks kinda brutal that they've only had the poorest showings since they've joined Fox

Probably thinking a mainstream, Nike-sponsored athlete that represents the face of the new UFC, but whose also thought of as a touch thin-skinned would be the perfect foil to Sonnen. JBJ adds legitimacy and interest for every day fans, and then Sonnen adds that brutally obnoxious heel side to it.

I haven't watched TUF in ages, but everyone online kept commenting on how boring Lesnar was when being himself, and JDS is hardly a trash talker. I also feel like Lesnar is a huge draw, but in a different way the JBJ.

None of my friends who watch the sport casually gave half a shit about Lesnar, JBJ might lose the pro-wrestling fan bump, but he's a fighter alotta ppl are interested in.

I mean, I still won't give a shit, and you're probably right, won't make the biggest difference, but it's worth a try as far as the UFC is concerned.
