Just passed, all fighters have to pass a credit check before eligible to fight and promotions have to pay a percentage of all revenue from DVD sales, PPV, and tickets to the mma governing body. Better make sure you dont have any unpaid credit cards before you apply for a license in Hawaii. They say these rules are neccessary to insure the safety of the fighters? LOL
Bad Credit = Lack of self control/responsibility/intelligence = poor training regimen = unsafe
Pretty solid math IMO, good for Hawaii
"Bad Credit = Lack of self control/responsibility/intelligence = poor training regimen = unsafe"
Bullshit, if anything bad credit means you work your ass off to get to the top to pay off your bills. All these agencies who do credit checks because they think someone in debt will commit a crime is bogus. I never once knew of a criminal who stole because he wanted to use the money to pay off an old visa bill. lol
well how high does ur credit score have to be?
"well how high does ur credit score have to be?"
No personal debt of more then $2000
> Bad Credit = Lack of self control/responsibility/intelligence = poor training regimen = unsafe
No... bad credit = higher risk of being susceptible to throwing fights for $...
$2000 debt was a joke but bad credit check is at mmaweekly.com. OldSchoolMike, are you married and if so can I fuck your wife in the ass?
The new law, which will become effective July 1st 2009, has many new points to give the department more oversight into the promotions running in Hawaii and much of this goes into the safety and security of the fighters involved.
Included in the new rules for the state of Hawaii will be the following:
* mandatory neurological testing of athletes
* disease and drug testing of athletes
* defining formal "rules" of MMA, including length of fights and rounds.
* criminal and financial background checks
* proof of medical insurance for fighters
* certified payment for athletes
* licensing of fighters & collection of fighter license fees 2 times per year.
Also as part of the new law, a new legislation of fees will be enacted for the promotions who wish to run shows in Hawaii and work along with the department in these new rules (previously they only paid the afore mentioned $500 licensing fee). The fees are as follows:
* 3% of first $50,000 gross ticket sales
* 2% of all gross ticket sales over $50,000
* 2% of all receipts from television broadcasting, internet, DVD sales, etc.
Well at least there's some good stuff in their like proof of medical insurance and certifying that the fighters get paid.
I aint paying no 2% for DVD sales either. These guys are crazy
More regulation is what this country needs. Good thing the democrats are in control.
LOL @ Hawaii
Crazy Islanders.
guess I wont be fighting in Hawaii.
Bad for business IMO. Do they really understand how many amateur and beginning pro fighters are living in studio apartments, eating ramen noodles because begining MMA doesn't pay for shit?
And to Adam who wrote:
" Bad Credit = Lack of self control/responsibility/intelligence = poor training regimen = unsafe

Yeah, I had a 700+ credit score before my daughter became critically ill. 3 years of hospitalizations, fighting with insurance companies and medical bills reaching over $50k killed that credit score. I guess I should have been more responsible and let her die, huh? At least I'd have my "responsible" credit score.
damn bad for the sport IMO
This is a bad thing fella's, and a very scary precedent.
Ouch... not good. Many fighters are young and financing first car and credit card. 10,000 would seem more reasonable for credit debt.

Ultimate Financial Challenge, can you train 6 days a week, twice a day and still pay off your credit from your college age years?
wtf?
damn.
They're also banning taking the use of cameras and video recorders in NYC.
These rules are fucking ridiculous. Take MMA back to Japan where there is no regulation and private orgs are free to make their own rules without draconian AC oversight.
America = the most regulated country on earth.
