If there was anyone in the world we thought Chris Weidman could knock out Anderson Silva, it was Ray Longo. Longo has been Weidman's striking coach and was confident going into the bout and as confident going into the rematch:

“This guy had a highlight reel that would scare the crap out of anybody. Now, knowing that he can knock this guy out – you’ve seen it in boxing a hundred times, guys don’t come back from that type of knockout. On top of that, the guy is 40 or 39 or whatever he is. I don’t see it,” Longo told MMAWeekly.com content partner Shameless Radio about the rematch.

Longo expects Weidman to have even more confidence heading into their second fight, now equipped with the knowledge of what to expect.

“I think Weidman is going to go in more confident than he was in the first fight. He knows what to expect with all the mugging and all the antics. I think it is really going to be a bad night for Anderson Silva again,” he said.

rightttt, righttt

I feel bad for Longo and Wiedman if they think the first fight is a good basis for what to expect in the rematch. Phone Post

It's a compelling rematch for sure. I'm looking forward to it. No result would surprise me which is refreshing.

He's right about coming back at that age though. Not many can do it. Phone Post 3.0

I wouldn't feel too bad for him. He has the belt.

And your name suggests you're in no position to predict the outcome of this match up. ;)

i see the rematch going a couple of ways -

silva was most effective in the first match landing those vicious leg kicks - wiedman will use those opporunities to go in for a takedown - then we will see silva on his back getting pummelled, and maybe subbed - remember - silva only got off the bottom in the first round because weidman went for a leg lock - silva didnt manage to work his way off his back

if silva goes for the boxing, again i see chris closing the distance and going for a takedown again - end result same as above -

silva wont beat weidman in the clinch or on the ground, so his best shot is kickboxing, which will open him up for the takedown -

so - this is why silva tried to do all the showboating in the first match - because he knew that the only way he's stand a chance of winning was to coax weidman into playing the stand up game, and not shoot for a takedown -

siva prob wont try the showboating again, so - really - how's he going to get the win???
opinions welcome...

Chris Weidman will win again and hold the belt for a long time! Phone Post

Ando is gonna beat him with leg kicks and foot work... the way Jose Aldo does it.

lol..whys that...are you fanbois still refusing to accept anderson go beat down both standing and on the ground and that he was trying and doing what he has done all along?

Stephen Holder - Its one thing for Chris to think he didn't catch Silva when he was acting like a fool and behaving in a manner that 99.9% of fighters wouldn't even dare imagine in the middle of a fight.

Weidman has a mental toughness that nobody can deny. Its starting to appear as if his fortitude will be his Achilles heel though, if you ask me. The kid comes across kinda like a dummy and unable to grasp how lucky he got especially considering how unimpressive he was on the ground in the first round and how Silva effortlessly stuffed his takedowns early in the 2nd.

Its one thing for Weidman to buy into his own hype but if this is legit how Longo is thinking going into December, nobody is gonna tell this kid the truth and hes gonna get smoked. Maybe that's why Serra looked like a different fighter against GSP the second time? I feel bad really.

this. i picked weidman, and i'd love for him to win again. but silva destroys him this time. if u watch the fight closely it's easy to see how a crisp / serious andy (or any elite striker) would have picked him apart. weidman had his hands much lower than they should have been and never came across as quick, nowhere near as quick as chael was in the first match up. hearing weidman's comments since the fight and now longo's, their heads are in la-la land and unrealistic. they should be studying the andy/chael 1 blueprint, instead they're thinking it'll be showboat city again en route to victory #2. i see andy using footwork, landing a high % and stuffing takedowns ending in TKO. he'll want to send a strong message and guaranteed he will not showboat

Will be rooting for Andy as always but Weidman is no Serra. Weidman is the real deal imo, one of the most complete guys out there outside Jones and GSP. Im not sure that "any elite striker would have picked him apart" though. But i did see that none of Anderson's strikes were "crisp" or really committed either. It was still a weird night for Andy. I still dont know how much of that was Weidman and how much was Anderson. I have to say it was both and would say for the rematch, i agree that its hard to come back from a KO like that at that age but it seems that Andy's motivation will be as strong as its been in some time. His chin will probably be down graded though, its inevitable with everyone.

I think Anderson changes things up and comes out with a new strategy and this will be an epic fight.

Depends on what kind of semantic battle we want to have with "real deal" and thus, "this."

Let me rephrase to make it a bit simpler: Weidman is already much better than Serra ever was. Im sure Serra and Longo would be the first to admit as well. Dont take it as a diss to Serra, NYC guy, "this" is pretty obvious.

If you look closely at the first fight, Anderson clearly has Weidman in underhooks, a Anderson who was not trying to lose would have knee'd Weidman endlessly until he gave up, for the life of me he didn't. I forget what timeframe it was, but if you watch the fight Anderson has underhooks and has clear shot at Weidman's stomach, chest and did nothing. He would have won had he done something at that point, he didn't proving that he wanted to loose, but by points, getting knocked out was not in the plan.

Real Talk.

Bellator Fan - "silva was most effective in the first match landing those vicious leg kicks."

Is that you Joe Rogan???? He landed a few slapping leg kicks that did nothing. Phone Post 3.0
Slapping ? Thats foolish he landed like 2 but they were pretty solid sending his leg flying around. That last fight wasn't indicative of anything we will see in the 2nd , although I expect a couple of those good ground scrambles and a lot less standing around with his hands down Phone Post 3.0

I rewatched it recently an said the exact same thing he coulda landed @ least 1 off the cage where it looked like Weidman was resting a second. I dunno why he didn't. He honestly looked bored. Anyone who says showboating was his strategy an doesn't think that it was excessive even for Anderson is lying to themselves. Phone Post 3.0

I happen to think the showboating was a strategy but that he also over did it and that it didnt seem like he was trying very much on his attempted strikes as well but this could have been also because Weidman thru his game off as well.

In further 2 fold detail, the showboating prevented tds for the rest of the fight only he got KTFO in getting the game he wanted instead.
