I checked on my testosterone levels about 5 years ago with my PCP and I was at something like 250 at the time… Definitely on the low end, but not enough for my doctor to prescribe TRT. I followed up again today, and I landed at 282 total but noticed that my free testosterone levels were at 5 ng/dl. Seems incredibly low but my next appointment with my doctor isn’t until March 30th. For the most part, I live a pretty healthy life. I eat pretty healthy, work out 5-6 times a week, and rarely drink alcohol. I don’t have a history of using steroids or anything of that sort.
Do you think I should push the TRT option with the provider? They seemed incredibly hesitant to prescribe last time.
Don’t waste your time with a PCP when it comes to low test. They’re almost all against supplementing it exogenously.
Just save yourself the time and go through an online clinic.
I’m 41. I’ve definitely lost muscle from when I was 25, but my strength is still there. I can still pull 400 and squat 350 at 165lbs. I do BJJ a couple times a week.
I wonder if it stems from my years doing MMA? I remember people saying that brain trauma could be a culprit. It might also be due to a plain ‘ole stressful lifestyle. I have 4 kids and both my wife and I both work.
I got on TRT in Nov of last year. My test levels were under 150. I am due for another check in a couple weeks to see how I am doing. I feel way better than I did. Way more energy and It seems like I have an extra gear or two. I can do 500 cals of cardio and feel the push to go longer and harder. I don’t see myself getting off TRT any time soon. I would strongly encourage you to get on it.
Thanks Fathead. I wonder how much it’s affecting my mental health. I don’t remember being so grumpy when I was younger. It’s funny how you don’t notice things when the change occurs over the years.
My one caution for you. If you do get on TRT, you are going to see a massive jump in sex drive. I am talking like 16 years old sex drive. Also, the rage is real. Takes some time to get that under control.
What time of day did you test your test? What was your sleep/training/drinking/eating/stress like in the days before?
If there are lifestyle changes you can make to optimize test, I would do that first. TRT = lifelong dependence on big pharma. If you’re still deadlifting basically 2.5x bw and squatting more than 2x, it seems crazy to sign yourself up for that.
Low T is a scam. Everyone has a shitty life, is tired, doesn’t feel like working out, and no longer wants to fuck their fat wife . The feel good from getting on the T is just a placebo, and you will be back to your depressed self in a year, except you are now stuck on T the rest of your life.
Not true. If this were the case there would be no such thing as post cycle therapy. If youre on trt long term, you eventually turn off your balls for good
You MAY need clomid but there is a ton of research showing reactivation without PCT, it takes a long time but your system will kick back in eventually. Or you take clomid (or similar drug) and it jump starts everything quickly. Its not like you cant get off TRT
Lol the rage is real? That’s not my experience, at all. I’ve done full blown steroid cycles and I never had rage. I’ve definitely never had it from trt keeping me at normal levels.
