Lyoto Machida

The guy is good. He's 3-0 in the UFC now and he hasn't been touched. In his first two UFC fights he held back which he got some flack for, but he was aggressive against Nakamura and took the fight straight to him, but didn't finish him. Nak is very hard to finish though. So what's next for this guy? He's good on the feet and on the ground and will pose problems for even the best guys at 205 imo. I'd love to see him fight Houston Alexander next. They have two very opposite styles, Machida takes his time and picks you apart, while Alexander tries to rip your head off immediately. They're both undefeated in the UFC too. This fight makes sense to me, anyone else agree?

I think thats the logical next fight. Houston vs. Machida. See what happens.

this is what I've been saying since saturday. Houston will push Lyoto and make it entertaining, but I would bet on Machida by well-roundedness.

Machida TKO's or subs an overwhelmingly-gassed Alexander Rd 2

houston and machida makes perfect sense

Glad you guys agree. I really like the sound of this match-up.

Jim Hoover will beat him!!!!

Lyoto is a smart fighter and is very tough to strike because of his head movement and fast footwork. He poses a threat to everyone at 205 because of this and he hits very hard just ask Stephan Bonnar or former champion Rich Franklin.

"Lyoto is undefeated, has wins over TWO former UFC champs, I think he should be in line for a title shot "

Rich Franklin at 205 (He won the Middleweight title at 185) and BJ Penn who won the title at 170, naturally fights at 155, weighed 178 for his fight with Machida when Machida was fighting at Heavyweight.

Tell me, how does this deserve a title shot?

I've been posting for Lyoto v Houston as well. Makes excellent sense. Both are right on the fringe of being top contenders.

Great fight - I agree with Machida by TKO or sub in the second. Machida didn't seem to tire much in his bout with Nakamura, and he was active the entire fight.

Conversely, Houston seemed pretty damned gassed after smashing Sakara, and that was a quick fight!

Have showed his real potential the other night, imo. When he did his weird (but effective) Shotokan-MMA, the opponents were thrown off. Sometimes being unorthodox can get you far, but not all the way.

Now he got to show that he can fight aggressively and pushing it, and do it well.

"Lyoto is undefeated, has wins over TWO former UFC champs, I think he should be in line for a title shot"

He should probably fight someone in the top 5 or 10 first.

i like ths idea:

Houston Machida makes sense.  But Machida would have to win to be considered for this new stacked 205 division.

You guys need to stop applying mma math to this.

I would really like to see the contrast in styles. I believe Lyoto would take this. However Houston seems to really enjoy taking peoples chin w/ him when he leaves the octagon.

I actually find Lyoto to be very entertaining. He doesn't always go for the kill, but it's nice to see guys who are technically sound pick apart their opponents even if they don't finish them, like Floyd Mayweather does even though I don't like that guy. And we don't have to watch twelve rounds of it, so I definitely don't mind three. Don't get me wrong, I like watching guys that go out looking for a KO or submission as soon as the bell rings, but it's a breath of fresh air to see a fighter with a different approach and style as well. Watching Machida is like watching poetry in motion. Watching Alexander is like watching a shark attack. The two constrasts in styles make this fight very interesting.

Lyoto is very respectful guy, not ghetto and trash

he'd be a good champ

Machida/Alexander at UFC 78 in November would really add some star power to that card. Many people are complaining that the card is kind of weak (I don't), but this would definitely add some fire to it for sure. Niether Houston or Lyoto took any punishment in their recent fights and I see no problem with them being ready to go in two months. If you are reading this Joe Silva, make it happen!
