Maybe He Can
@GSTREBENDT
I loved England nore than any country i had ever been in up to that point in my life. I would walk the River Thames, stroll through Westminster Abby…my favorite of all was Hyde Park and the Sherlock Holmes museum on whatever famous street that was!!! I loved it!!. I loved Cornwall and the traditional Pasties and the original fish and chips with the newspaper for wrapping… i fought Jean Da Silva in the York Hall in Bethnal Green where Mike Tyson fought and Lennox Lewis and all the british world champions fought. I beat him easily in the first round and then i was invited 4 more times to fight for the title there… lost it in a rematch and lost against Shaolin when he held the title… i cherish my Cage Rage and Cage Warriors memories… especially the promoter who took such good care of me Dougie Truman… a real prince
Never knew you Raged in the Cage
Cage rage events were wild, and had quite a few London gangsters behind the scenes,
I went to 2 events, before Scotland started to put on some regional MMA shows etc,
Good to hear u like the UK G man, you would love Scotland, I’ll show u how we party!
I also did a shit load of blow with one of the referees (I won’t name names) he’s not high profile, but featured is the majority of the fights, who is a Propa naught boy
Still haven’t got around to watching the vid, but I will tonight, that’s for damn Sure
Buck
Can you help land us Mark Epstine???
I don’t know him personally.
But have some friends here that know him,
I think he’d be a great interview.
I believe he’s been doing movie work these days,
But I’d love to hear his insight to the early UK MMA scene, I’ll put out some feelers and see
Great ep Sergeant Strebendt!
Respect right off the bat for how honest the pod was and how clear and cool you were with having no questions be off limits. Makes for the best podcasts. FRAT Warning for my 2 cents
What a story
-100% Finish Rate
-Became Cage Rage LW Champion in England
-Got the 1st Twister in MMA
-Being there for the ground floor of Eddie and Rogan’s rise. The entire Rafiel Torre saga.
Him calling you before your UFC debut must have been intense mix of emotions.
-That Big Tex cell story and how many more stories you probably have that weren’t told
Funny you mentioned that underground LA Fighter named Maverick. It took me years back then but I found out who he was after hearing about him
I had a friend that knew him and always bragged he was friends with a "UFC fighter” way back then and I never believed him even though I saw the photos of them together and even his cage fights that weren’t UFC… Found out it was this guy decades later and he did have some fights on Fight Finders like the one I posted but of course he wasn’t a UFC fighter like my buddy said because I would have known him. Just funny you mentioned him I never hear about that guy.
Awesome podcast all around from you and the MMA Detective. I have always appreciated your posts here. I can’t imagine what it took but it seems like you have come out the other side with a greater sense of peace than one would expect. I hope you get that story made into something big cause it is one hell of a story.
Great Post
I’m always gonna hope it comes to light what goes on behind BKFC. @GSTREBENDT thanks for sharing your journey and I hope the world is treating you kindly, dude. Be safe.
