Just rewatched him absolutely annihilate Golota. Damn, perfect performance by Brewster against a really dangerous heavyweight.

I had a $45 upper bowl ticket

The amount of angry Poles at that event was something that I will never forget

His first fight with Wlad was super impressive. Brewster was outgunned in almost every way but really showed his toughness by getting off the deck in that one.

If you watch the Brewster - Savin fight, you can see that he not only learned from it; but it also prepared him for that moment years later

Savon was definitely a generational talent. It was so sad we never got to see him or Teofilo Stevenson as pros. The Cuban team definitely had a distinct system for the international Olympic system. Brewster seemed to do better against him in the first round than Tua Imbraghimov or Shannon Briggs. It’s hard as an amateur to shore the gap with a guy that has that much international experience and talent. One thing I appreciate about amateur boxing is that there’s definitely an emphasis on clean technique and skill development and Brewster was obviously quite skilled at the fundamentals.

Speaking of American vs Cuban Olympic bouts, I sure would enjoy hearing David Reid on your podcast.

To me this was your bed episode yet! I learned a lot. I really liked Lamon before but I absolutely loved hearing this much of him . He just seems like such a genuinely good person. It really helps that you guys obviously know and love boxing. Thanks again! Great listen. This is now my favorite podcast.

What “AJ’s sister” did to Lamon was even worse than I thought she did. Lamon was really open and honest with his answers, no bullshit with him, he’s very honest with himself and that’s rare…

This interview got me thinking about other amateur boxers of that era and the first person I thought about was the captain and star of the 92 Olympic Team Erik Griffin, one of the best amateurs ever, had he not been fucked over by the judges and won a gold he would have debuted in a title fight against Michael Carbajal, a rematch from the Olympics trials in 88…Instead he turns pro at 106 with no medal and fades into oblivious. I look to see how he’s doing and found out he passed in October… RIP to a forgotten warrior

1 more thing, Lamon is by far the most well dressed guess Lytes Out has had on, his scarf and Kangol game is strong

A suggestion for a future interview… A joint interview with Buck Smith and Harold Brazier the 2 men who had the last 15 round fight in history, hell I’d be happy if someone could find tape of this fight. I think it happened in Oklahoma. Both guys were road warriors with interesting back stories. Brazier also had the best jheri kurl in boxing history,.
