Machida's Counter: Is he ready for Jones?

Acidic -  He beat a wrestler who decided to be stupid and strike. not suprising at all

Bader couldn't close distance at all. He didnt know what to do. He couldnt get close enough to wrestle Phone Post

Jones reach negate much of machidas in and out movements. What shockes me more is Machida has gotten away with his chin up so high for so long. Seems to work against good wrestlers but a better striker could give him problems.

He was lost from the get go. He couldnt do jack shit and like Jake Shields vs GSP after one attempt he quit trying to wrestle because Machida destroyed him mentally from the start.

JBJ is no Bader

Am I the only one that noticed that Machida was outstriking Jones? and that he wasnt knocked out by Jones?

Thats one round but again most machia fans make a big deal out of it. When it really isnt. Youre fighting a guy with an unorthodox style you need one round to figure him out and thats all JBJ needed. He put him to sleep in the second round like a baby.

You people give Machida way to much credit for only one round

Unfortunately I have to agree with that assessment Acidic. I want Jones to fall, but as soon as he started implementing his gameplan against Machida the fight stated going downhill for Lyoto very quickly.

Shogun had nothing and still managed to last longer. The dude was dropping down for leg locks while gassed and still lasted longer.

You wrote Machida was knocked out by Jones. I'm pretty sure he was never knocked out by Jon Jones. That technique is a choke called a guillotine.

Typo, knocked down. The knockdown was a thousand times more important than the guillotine though. Jones couldn't have guillotined Lyoto so easily were he not reeling from being dropped on his face.

Jack Slack -
kikenyoy - So is it a foregone conclusion in your mind that Jones beats Hendo? I'm hoping that you do a preview article of the striking for that fight and hopefully you see some way that Hendo can land the big shot and take Jones out.

Got a couple of pieces coming up on Jones and Henderson. In truth Hendo's recent knockout streak has come from fighting overconfident fighters.

Fedor was basically rushing his opponents by the time he fought Hendo, Feijao has never had much but a right hand, and Shogun just stood in front of him. The truth is that circling away from Dan's right hand leaves him pretty impotent - it's the reason he was Decision Dan for so much of his career, the right hand has always been there.

he was decision Dan because he won questionable decisions, not because he was knocking people out Phone Post

youre forgetting that Machida got cut wide open before the knockdown. That cut was a thousand times more important than the knockdown. Jones couln't have knocked down lyoto so easily were he not reeling from being cut wide open.

Jack,

Can you please do an analysis of what Edgar can do against Henderson to win the striking exchanges during this weekend's bout? What can he do about the body kicks?

Thanks for these as usual!

He couldn't get close enough lol. Bones is obviously a better wrestler. Took him down from the clinch btw, very hard to do. Bader wasnt going to get a takedown shooting for a double leg from 10 feet away Phone Post
