Maia had a great run at WW

Keep in mind the guy did not start BJJ until he was 19.
Just fought last night at 43 1/2 years old while the average elite WW is 28-35.

Started WW career beating Stun Gun Kim when he was 6-2 in UFC. Kim finished his career 13-5 in UFC only losing to Maia, Karo and three world/int. champs. Then beat Story when he was 7-3 in UFC. After that it was Fitch when he was 14-2-1 in UFC. After those wins he lost the close fights to Shields and Rory.

Then he had his 7 fight win streak beating Yakovlev, LaFlare, Magny,Gunnar, Brown, Condit and Masvidal.

That win streak earned him his title shot on four weeks notice, three months before he turned 40. Then fought Covington and Usman over the next ten months.

Put together the win streak over Good, Martin and Askren after that. Muhammad and Burns just beat him but keep in mind they are 32 and 34, right in their prime.

Prior to that WW career, Maia had his 9-4 UFC MW career.been the ages of 30-34.

So it was between the ages of 34-43 that Maia went 13-7 at the highest levels of the WW division. For comparison, Woodley is 4-4-1 at WW after turning 34, GSP was 0-0, Hughes was 3-4.
